A bit late posting today due to the hurricane hitting us right now in Houston. I’ve been without power or internet since early today and our cell service is dreadfully slow. At times like this life forces you to slow down and think about things differently. It’s easy to see how the patterns of our modern lives can come crashing down so quickly in the face of natures wrath, or due to domineering human actions, as was the case in Kyiv this morning… yet another senseless and horrible tragedy. With such atrocities around the world it makes my tornado and flood warnings here seem trivial, though people will die.

All of this has put me in a place of deep inner contemplation. The moods of so many friends are in flux, locally and globally, for their mixed reasons. I can feel my heart reaching out to the world, my energy drawing down as it braces to show up for the storms all around us.
What can we do in the face of powerlessness? How can we help our friends, family and loved ones when they are in danger far away? How can we serve life and beauty and love when our immediate needs feel threatened?

I am reminded now to breathe, to sit in stillness, to feel deeply, to respect the awesome forces that impact our lives. I am reminded to be the change I wish to see in the world. I am reminded that the ways in which I hope for future events to unfold may or may not become reality. I am reminded that everything happens for a reason, and that we often cannot grasp such things in the moment. Nowhere is this a more difficult test than in the midst of human tragedy.
How will we react in the face of such challenges?

as grains of sand
fall through the
looking glass
each carries with it
the stories of
of life as lived…
no two crystals
may be alike, as each
contains the seeds
of its story, that will
blossom and grow
as it’s told and unfolds..
the intrinsic lessons
are bestowed upon
the subjects and to
those who will hear the
tale and hold it inside..
yet whether plain as the day,
or balanced as a barge
on a blade of grass,
each grain passes
through, transforming
the future to present
to past… each
pulling the elusive
quality of time
wrapped within its
fable as told by
those within and
retold by those
who breathe life
into the songs of old
for the collective
growth of our kin and kind.

may we remember
to listen with the
ears of our hearts
and to know that
each story we hear
is meant for us at that
specific time and place,
though it’s meaning
may shift as we allow
it to take root and grow
along with the evolution
of our soul as the
observer and observed
merge and become one.
•
and to those who hold
ever onto the past
keep in mind that it is
but a story, now told
by those who often
do not remember the
original verse…
if they ever knew at all.
only the present exists,
and the future is what
we make of it.

Happy Monday everyone! Additionally, on this special Monday, Happy Birthday to my badass sister @AshleyJSumner 🥳
My only sibling and I have now shared over 3 decades together and went off to do cool things in different corners of the globe.. but we always come back together to share in life’s mysteries and help guide one another from the depths that such time and shared history afford.

As we all careen thru the cosmos at insane speeds, it’s no wonder we look up into the vastness and find reasons to slow down and appreciate the passage of time.
Birthdays, holidays, milestones of life… empirical or subjective, I find them all perfect excuses to break away from the daily patterned milieu we march to and find ourselves amidst the chaos of existence as humans on earth.
What are your favorite reasons to celebrate? Favorite holidays? Favorite birthday memories? How do you like to slow down and appreciate the marvelous gift of life? How do these moments inform your art?

Actually I am from a big family . Siblings, nephew, and niece. So parties and birthdays were always a great and happy part of my life.
I like this big family, it makes me more mature. At least, I think. on the other part is you should manage your time.

Lately, solitude, learning about myself, the forest and nature give me peace and love.
