Gm🤘🏼 - Back when @COMPUTERBLOOD was Whalesink (a name which we all pronounced wrong & misunderstood) and his art de jour was mostly radioactive roadkill and dinosaur drawings, I saw something in his madness. He was one of the artists at the time thru which I realized there was more to “collecting” art than just crushing bidding wars… Watching him dig in all these years and define such a recognizable style and well deserved (literal cult) following around him is the kind of reward that makes collecting art something that can’t really be explained or understood by most crypto bros or even trad art collectors or investors. Maybe the angel investors amongst us would get it. This is not a game for those who like clearly defined horizons or instant gratification. Here we must have vision. Here we play the long game. - I’m curious, after all these years… what’s your long game? - Thanks to @SuperRare for the win🫡

@GrantYun2 Well said Grant, you’ve put into words what we all feel. I believe we have enough committed builders and talented artists to make our mark on the world… though I’ve never been able to crack the nut on herding in the collectors like I had hoped 😂

Sad to see NFTs slowly become an issue of visibility for underrepresented artists. Its been sad to witness platforms go under, not only for provenance and traceability but also, just as importantly, for finding new artists. 2021/2022 was a huge push to have digitally native artists finally find a way to commoditize and individualize their bodies of work. The countless digital natives in industry, freelance positions had an avenue to share the incredibly important work they were doing. I myself was fortunate enough to be found as a small artist (previously doing strictly freelance work) on SuperRare. Prior to SuperRare I had been rejected by multiple platforms i.e. makersplace/knownorigin... but the amount of options from curated to open platforms gave me a chance to share my work with the world. While things were not always perfect, the enthusiasm to share newly discovered art/artists was the foundation of the industry. Much of this is lost today, not to any one person/platform's fault. As many say on X today, its largely a numbers game; artists simply outweigh the number of collectors. You cannot blame many who have left if they cannot make ends meet with their practice here, I only hope many of the artists not as active anymore on social media are still creating more and more art. Not much can change this beyond macro factors imo. Platforms have overhead costs, employees. And overall it appears most communities are understanding of this. I'll be eager to see those who return and all the new creators who find the magic of tokenization for the first time. However I praise all the digitally native platforms that are still taking risks and continuing to curate today. The beauty is the underlying technology exists. Of course digital native techniques existed in all forms/industries of art before all this but the accessibility gives a sense of farm-to-table feel... At the same time I don't want to discredit all the hard work this space does to champion a small select set of artists onto the global contemporary art stage. Take all the chances you can get. Who wouldn't take the opportunities to share with the world artists we think are doing important work for art, society, and this field? As Mimi said in her recent post about Leander, to "plant a trojan horse." There really is not point to this post. thx for coming to my ted talk, might delete later but thought I'd share some opinions as I rarely just speak about general NFT related topics. Regardless, I think the focus is to build and believe (assuming that one has the luxury to do so). <3
