James is extremely well-written because he's not the typical "hero". He represents real human psychology. He's often mischaracterized as either evil or innocent, but he's neither. He's a flawed and broken man who constructed a "psychological escape" because he couldn't face himself and what he did. It's a realistic PTSD response, the brain can rewrite/erase memories and create delusions to protect itself from trauma. Jame feels so "real" because he's imperfect and the player can connect with him on such a deep level. Reducing him to simply evil or innocent defeats the moral of the story itself. #silenthill #silenthill2 #silenthill2remake
