Many still believe Trump wants to restart the war. They have their reasons. My response is simple. It was not Iran that sought the ceasefire. It was Iran that chose not to attend the second round of negotiations. Trump knows one thing very well. If this war restarts, Iran will not come back to the table. No ceasefire. No negotiations. Then it becomes a straight contest of military and strategic outcomes. And that is a very different game. One that requires congressional backing, and one where there is already visible dissent within U.S. defence establishment. Will he take that risk? If yes, what makes you believe he can be successful?

I told @ft on Gen Munir and Pakistan’s delicate mediating role: In Tehran, they would have given him [Munir] a difficult time, and questioned why he was pushing so hard for mediation — was it genuine or was he part of a ruse to get them to bring their guard down. Pakistanis are serious interlocutors, but what they can’t deliver is any guarantees on Trump’s behavior. They can’t say we promise the US won’t do A, B, C. And there’s nothing Munir can do about that. ft.com/content/eb2215… via @ft

@3lfares Why? I don’t like Khamenei, but this man was willing to die for you. He sacrificed his whole country for your freedom. Why is he a piece of shit, when Erdogan, who to this day trades with Israel, is beloved? Is it because Khamenei happened to be a Shia?

@3lfares Wow. So you are one of those Palestinians. Possibly the worst kind of humans on a par with Zionists. It’s really sad when I encounter people like. Zionists only make me angry. You’re just pathetic.

If I had to place a bet, it would be on the U.S. lifting the blockade and soon. The U.S. does not want a war. It knows that if the blockade continues, Iran will eventually respond. And once that happens, escalation becomes unavoidable. The real constraint is this: A full-scale war is not just costly, it is strategically dangerous, with outcomes the U.S. cannot fully control.

Here is how it will play out. They will put a choice before the current Turkish leadership: withdraw from the region, shrink back into the 1990s Turkey, scale back defense industry development and change policy towards Israel. If this was rejected, they will put a choice in front of the entire Turkey: either current Turkish leadership is changed or there will be consequences. The first choice wouldn’t be war but war will be an option of the table. It will start with hurting the economy. Some economic hardship coupled with threats of war will bring out the local collaborators. They will claim the current Turkish leadership leaving will be the solution. They claim it is to save Turkey and Turkish people from war and hardship. Either riots or calls for early elections. Turkish leadership leadership’s insistence on not surrendering will be portrayed as personal clinging to power. If none of those worked, war will be on the door. But for then to start implementing the plan, they need to neutralize the Iranian threat first. Because if they manage to neutralize Iran, they may not even need to threaten Turkey. The power balance in the region will change in a way which makes it foolish for anyone to even think about war and resistance. The moment they take care of Iran, Turkey as the last remaining sovereign power in the region will become the target. In the mean time, Turkey ha a window of time to maximize its military deterrence capabilities. That window ends when Iran loses. Turkey has a choice: wait for its turn or do what is necessary to make sure that day never comes. Iran and Hezbollah standing is Turkey’s best bet for making sure that they will never be able to corner Turkey alone.

The second US Iran summit is likely to take place in Pakistan early next week. The first summit happened in Islamabad Serena Hotel. Hotel spent lot of money for hosting the summit. The hotel owner is telling press no one has paid for the cost incurred by him for summit. In simple words, nobody is settling the bill. These are usual Pakistani things.

My assessment at this stage is that the actual war is effectively over. What remains now are the details of an agreement, which, by nature, will take time to finalize. Likely a few weeks. In the meantime, the ceasefire may need to be extended to allow space for negotiations to conclude.

@asif343 @irenaakbar I feel that the real people playing destructive roles are those who are fighting against Iran. Organizations like Al-Qaeda and ISIS are believed by some to be controlled or influenced by these same forces. 1/

Given the current situation, it’s reasonable to assume that the Gulf Arab states do realise that the US will not protect them: rather the US is subjugating them for oil and Israel. Yet, they do not want to get out of their comfort zone. They prioritise construction of tall buildings and hosting of tournaments/concerts over investing in building/strengthening their own military. The latter requires patience and dignity. They are clearly patient (or cowardly) with the US but have zero sense of dignity.

“America is the administrator of the world” - what a slavish mindset you have. I pity you for the extent you go to defend the Gulf Arabs (perhaps you justify belly dances in the deserts of Dubai too). And stop disrespecting the Ayat of the Quran by bringing it here to justify decadence. May Allah guide us towards truth and courage.

@asif343 @irenaakbar And in return, whatever they gave us we would accept it with folded hands just because they were powerful? Your theory seems to promote worshipping power and wealth above everything, rather than building a prosperous nation and a nation filled with self-respect 2/2 .

@irenaakbar When you build a global city, there are mosques and music halls! When Allah asked the angels if we were going to create humans, what did they answer? Humans will shed blood,so didn't God create humans? And also America is the administrator of the world,we will have to accept this.

Don’t deflect. Keep aside Iran for a moment, and answer this: Should Gulf Arab states continue to host US forces on their land? Should they not invest in building/strengthening their military? Do you consider all of this (alongwith hosting music concerts) as being on the right path?

@irenaakbar Arabs are on the right path, on the path of peace and progress. The Iranian regime needs to change its behavior. They need to know the era of destructive politics has come to an end. The world is globalized and America is the administrator of this globalized world.

Next level of escalation is happening - naval blockade - which would impact the entire global trade. What would Trump do if Iran closes Bab el-Mandab Strait too and prevents the entire gulf from moving anything.

2 things we should give Iranians credit where it’s due. 1. There was no running from war, no refugees that we know, in contrary Iranians rushed to defend their country. 2. They didn’t succumb to threats and took the fight heads on. Now what Iran needs to watch out is a civil war, in case of civil war there will be massive refugee crisis.

@Z_DauletSingh @rwac48 Iran is cut to size now. The Trump administration was not engaged in war with Iran, it was simply doing surgical strikes on Iran. So calling it war is half true.

Can Iran claim the status of a major power after successfully resisting the leading great power in the international system today in a large scale military conflict? Historically, successful military performance has been the ultimate test for any rising power whether in the traditional European state system or in the post-war order after 1945. Iran’s political system, civilizational resilience, national resolve, human capital, military power, natural resources, strategic acumen of its leadership, and, geopolitical location together demonstrate it has all the attributes of being a major regional power.

@asif343 @Glenn_Diesen @ATamariya If this is the case why was Trump so thirsty for a ceasefire? Why was it such a task to open the SoH? Seems like poor decision making to have the ‘enemy’ so decimated to then give them a ceasefire when you achieve zero of your initial objectives.

The main losers of this war has been the Gulf States. Being frontline states for a declining hegemon is a disaster, as Ukraine and Europe will also at some point recognise. Frontline states in Asia, such as South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, are now having these discussions. The hegemon is gone and its alliance systems such as NATO must be replaced with inclusive security arrangements. Make peace with your neighbours!
