During my NYSC last year in Adamawa State, our CDS group visited a prison. Till today, I genuinely don’t think I’ve recovered from what I saw there. We went there with good intentions. We carried detergents, food items and other little things we thought would help them. The plan was simple talk to the inmates, encourage them, advise them and remind them that life could still change for the better. The moment we entered the prison compound, the atmosphere changed completely. One of the officers told us to drop all our phones inside a small office before going further. At first I didn’t think much of it, but the moment that door closed behind us, I started feeling uncomfortable. The silence inside that place was not normal. As we approached, the officers ordered them to come out and sit on the floor for us. Around 70 of them slowly walked out and sat quietly without making noise. Most of them were very young. Maybe around 21 to 28 years old. Boys that looked like they should still be in school or hustling outside trying to survive life. But what shocked me first was their appearance. Almost all of them looked extremely skinny. Their hair was completely barbed low to the point where you could clearly see the shape of their skulls. Not normal skinny… the kind that makes you uncomfortable when you look too long. Then I noticed an old man sitting among them.
🍷@whoknowslevi

ever had a prison visit experience that haunted you for days????

@mimiibrahim_ What you should do with your carbs like rice is incorporate vegetables. Like cabbage and carrots in white rice. It reduces the quantity of rice you want to eat and is still filling and also nutritious.

@Mo_BenSalman I did. You said the no wasn't a real no. Whatever is unclear in the religion is best left alone. Women braid hair, not men. Whether you're in lagos or not. Saying it's not a real no is saying it is halal.

Yes and No. Yes: The prophet PBUH used to braid his hair whenever he was going on long journeys. You can also dye your hair to any colour except black. No: The "NO" is actually not a real "NO", but more of precautionary. The prophet PBHUM advised us not to do things...

As a Muslim guy, can I plait or tint my hair?

@Mo_BenSalman The point is it was functional. Keeping long hair tidy. Something he did while traveling. Talk about the intent too. I don't see braiding your hair whether in 4 or 6 parts just to look good being halal. When braiding is so tied to being feminine over here.

@asifuhh He'd braid it in 4 parts. Basically dividing his head to 4 parts and braid. I feel you on the feminine one sha😂

I sent 100 cold emails to law firms in the USA and got a positive response. At my last job, we did a lot of lead generation for students and it used to land them internships at hospitals they only ever imagined they could get into. I decided to try it for myself at the start of this year. I went on Google Maps, searched law firms in the USA, got their emails from Apollo and their websites and sent out 100 emails. By the end of the week I had 23 rejection emails and nothing else. I thought that was it. Then 2 months later, another email came in. I almost didn't open it. I had already written it off as another rejection. It wasn't. One law firm actually came through with a positive response. If you were ever in doubt, know this that cold emailing works. Whatever your field is, the people who need you are out there. You just have to reach enough of them.

I hate when people do this. Most of our beloved characters in the Avatar Universe are women. The show gave us Katara. Many of us loved her. I’d even rank her, Azula, and Toph at the same power level to be honest. The same show gave us Toph. To me, she was the best written female character in the whole ATLA series. A pure badass! Should we talk about Azula and her squad of Ty Lee and Mai? One of the best villain squads we’ve ever seen on live television. We have all seen brilliant female characters which we all loved from the Avatar Universe, but I can tell you boldly that Korra is definitely not one of them. We don’t like Korra because she’s a badly written character. Period. Korra was supposed to be better than Aang, supposed to be written to be a pure prodigy and badass like Toph but this time around she’s an Avatar, yet she wasn’t. Korra is not even a prodigious bender tbh. She’s just a manipulator of the elements, and that’s sad for a girl who started bending as a baby girl. She didn’t truly master any element, including water lmao 😂.. For her to have had an extremely prodigious Avatar like Aang as a spirit guide, and Aangs own son as a mentor, yet ended up fumbling at every fight and putting herself into situations that could have easily been avoided, was just the worst piece of bad writing we’ve even seen for a character. It was so bad that even elderly Toph had to mention it that she was the worst Avatar she’s ever seen, and Toph is literally BLIND. Elderly Toph would easily wipe Korra out looking backwards, whether or not Korra was poisoned, and whether Korra enters the Avatar state or not. Every hate Korra gets, is well deserved. She is the worst thing that happened to the Avatar Universe and honestly the Universe would have been better if she never existed in it. If I had Thanos’ gauntlet, I would happily wipe her whole timeline off the Universe. Someone who used the Avatar State as cheat code to win race with kids younger than her is someone who we should take seriously? Please shift this thing outta my face abeg.

Last Year November, Ozioma Okonkwo was arrested in Enugu State after his wife accused him of defiling their two daughters and even allegedly threatening to kill her if she ever tries to expose the secret. I remember social media being agog with different types of takes until evidence was brought forth that the man didn't do it. The saddest part of the video is that the man himself refused to believe his wife could ever accuse him of such. He even defended her right in front of the police interrogators. After he was later not found guilty, everywhere quieted down immediately. People who wrote hot takes about it became silent. Now, every time you go online to check his name, it is associated with rape. That stigma will be with him forever. That’s what happens with fake rape accusations. In this age of screenshots and search engines, an allegation travels faster than due process. Even when the law clears you, Google does not forget. Employers don’t forget. Neighbours don’t forget. Your children don’t escape it. So when people say, “If you’re not a rapist, why are you angry when women say all men?” they ignore a simple truth, which is that collective language creates collective suspicion. Suspicion creates bias and bias destroys innocent lives. None of this reduces the horror of rape. Rape is evil. It ruins bodies, minds, families. It deserves the full weight of the law. Survivors deserve to be heard, protected, and believed enough for claims to be properly investigated. But justice is not a mob emotion. It is a process. A society that wants to eradicate rape must also protect the innocent from false destruction. Both things can be true at the same time. When we abandon balance, we don’t strengthen justice, we weaken it.

@faruqfromdeep After he ﷺ gave salaam to end the prayer, they said to him, ‘O Messenger of Allaah! You prostrated in the prayer and prolonged it …’ so he ﷺ said, ‘My son was riding on my back and I did not want to disturb him …’ What are your thoughts?

@faruqfromdeep ...he feared that he may have passed away—when to his surprise he sees a strange sight, he sees him in prostration, and al-Hasan and al-Hussain … so the Companion feels at ease [that the Prophet ﷺ is okay] and falls back into prostration....
