Today, on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, and as Deputy Ambassador, Sierra Leone Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium, I had the honour of witnessing the swearing-in ceremony of two newly appointed judges of the Residual Special Court Justice Komba Kamanda and Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi. The oath of office was administered by the President of the Court, Hon. Justice Richard Lussick. I extend my warmest congratulations to the two Justices and wish them every success in their service in dispensing justice and administering the rule of law.

Monday’s Inspiration.. My journey in diplomacy has been incredible and truly transformative. Accompanying my ambassador to bilateral talks, exchanging ideas, and representing my beloved Sierra Leone at significant events have given me invaluable experiences. These moments are especially noteworthy given today’s global challenges. Alhamdulillah🙏🤍

June 24th was the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. According to the United Nations, “Despite global commitments to gender equality, women remain significantly underrepresented in diplomacy and political leadership, with recent trends showing troubling regression." Both the Human Rights Council and UN Women emphasize the systemic barriers—such as discrimination, gender stereotypes, and political violence—that continue to exclude women from high-level decision-making roles. Despite these challenges, on this day, I found myself at a decision-making table as the only woman present—an opportunity for which I am truly grateful. This isn’t just a coincidence; it reflects President @julius_maadabio’s strong commitment to empowering women and providing the space for them to showcase their potential. Over the past months, I have found the diplomatic space interesting and rewarding. I am proud of my contributions so far. Alhamdulillah 🙏 Congratulations to all the women in diplomacy worldwide!

It is with great pride and pleasure that I, along with my colleagues, had the honour of accompanying His Excellency Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu as he presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium. This distinguished ceremony marks the beginning of Ambassador Jusu's official diplomatic tenure in the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. Congratulations once again, Ambassador Bob Jusu!

Welcome to Brussels, Ambassador Philip Bob Jusu! I first met Ambassador Jusu in 2012 when I was invited by the then Legal Officer and head of the Open Society Justice Initiative Sub-office in The Hague, Alpha Sesay, now the Attorney General Minister of Justice, to cover and report on the final judgment of former Liberian President Charles Taylor in The Hague. At that time, Bob was working in Brussels but came over to visit Alpha. Since then, we occasionally checked in with each other to see how we were doing. After a while, in 2018, we met again at the Auradicals dinner in the United States. Today, we both have the honour of serving as Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador for the Kingdom of Belgium, accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Hellenic Republic, the Holy See, and mission to the European Union. We thank HE President Bio for this opportunity to serve at this level. Bob Jusu brings a wealth of experience from his work with various local and international organisations, including the Anti-Corruption Commission in Sierra Leone, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, United Nations missions, the African Union, and Google. I, on the other hand, have a strong media background and extensive experience with international development partners. In our first meeting, we asked God to guide us through this journey—a powerful combination of the two.

It has been an incredible six months since I transitioned from my journalism career to diplomacy. Today, I want to take a moment to reflect on this journey and express gratitude to Allah for His guidance. This experience has provided me with an excellent learning opportunity. As a former journalist, I now have to adapt to new ways of thinking and communicating, which has deepened my understanding of the complex world of international relations. I have grown in ways I never imagined, and I am excited to continue making a positive impact in my new role. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve and represent my country, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds. As I continue to develop in this position, I am thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the vital work of diplomacy. I am forever indebted to His Excellency @julius_maadabio for the opportunity to serve my country at this level. On Tuesday, 5th November 2024, I officially took leave of His Excellency @PresidentBio at State House to begin my tour of duty as Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Brussels in the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. It's a privilege and honour to represent my country, Sierra Leone, in this role. I am grateful to H.E. President Brig. Rtd. Dr. Julius Maada Bio for his trust and confidence in me. I am committed to working with the Ambassador and team in service of our government, our people, and our beloved nation. Earlier this week, I had the honour of receiving my certificate from Jacqueline Moore, the Public Affairs Officer, for my participation in this year’s International Visitors Leadership Program in the United States. A few months ago, I joined media professionals from around the world in the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists, which focused on "Media Responsibility in an Age of Disinformation." Participating in these U.S. exchange programs is always a tremendous pleasure. Misinformation and disinformation pose significant threats, making it essential to identify trusted sources. This journey has been an incredible and memorable experience.
