The SEC and CFTC just published formal classification guidelines for crypto assets. 16 assets classified as digital commodities, NOT securities. BTC, ETH, SOL, AVAX, ADA, XRP, DOT, LINK, UNI, AAVE all included. Digital commodities are defined as assets that derive value from programmatic operation of a functional system, not from managerial efforts. This clarity changes everything for projects launching in 2026. If your token generates passive yield, conveys rights to future income, or depends on a team's ongoing efforts, it's likely a digital security.
