Resident Evil is not really “about” its characters and their inner lives any more than Super Mario is “about” Mario as a person. They are cool exciting avatars to engage the mechanics with. The setting and the characters are pretty much stock. The gameplay is the concept.

The series is about how Jill and Chris, and the people around them, are dealing with the exploitation by Umbrella corporation and the betrayal by Wesker. It is not simply "horror and zombies", this is why I can't take Cregger fanboys seriously because they're all larpers.
