Today, the Office of American Indian Initiatives (OAII) tabled at the 29th Annual Indian Nations & Tribes Legislative Day 🏛️🔱 We were excited and happy to see other ASU staff, students, and alumni at the Arizona State Capitol. We enjoyed our first event of the 2024 year!

📣 This November the 20th Annual Veteran’s Pow Wow will be held on ASU’s West Campus! The event is free and open to the public. 📍Location: 4701 West Thunderbird Road, Glendale, AZ, 85306 🗓️ Date: November 11th, 2023 ⏰ Time: 11AM - 7PM

We’re off to start Day One of Tribal Nations Tour 2023! 🚌🔱 We look forward to sharing our Indigenous Sun Devil stories with students from the Tohono O’odham, San Carlos Apache, White Mountain Apache, Navajo and Zuni communities. Ahéhee', Ashoog', Asquali, and Sapo!

OAII represented ASU at the 20th Annual NABI event at their College and Career Fair. 🔱 We shared information about college with the NABI players & met ASU alumni. We were excited to meet A.C. Green & to see a few of our INSPIRE 2023 students! We wish good luck to the players!

The students toured the Mix center and received a keychain that was made by the Mix Center staff. Thank you! We ended our day by cooling off at the Sun Devil Fit pool and had open gym while enjoying paleta bars.

Kelley Willie-Olivarez & Valeria Lopez. Later in the afternoon, we went to the ASU Mix Center and the students watched “Red Hand,” a remarkable short film about MMIW written & directed by Octavia Endischee.

Day 5 of #INSPIRE2023 🔱 On day 5, INSPIRE students attended their daily learning communities followed by a resume building workshop facilitated by ASU Career Services. After lunch, they had an awesome presentation by @aisssasu, lead by AISSS staff Penny Harris..

& @cronkite_asu. Our students then took charter bus out to Ak-Chin Entertainment Center. They were able to play unlimited arcade games, laser tag, and bowl! Students shared they enjoyed taking the buses out to Ak-Chin to bond with their fellow peers.

Day 4 of #INSPIRE2023 🔱 Wednesday, our students started off their morning routine, breakfast & learning communties. After class, they listened to a presentation by @tinhornconsulting on Indigenous entrepreneurship. Later, we went to our downtown campus to visit/tour @asuilp

This morning we hosted students from Salt River Student Services at the Labriola space at ASU’s Tempe Campus.🔱 Thank you @ASULabriola & @AISSSASU for sharing information. Also, thank you to our students Lamar, Dalavai, & Lakota, for sharing their college experiences! #SkoDevils

This morning we hosted 7th-8th graders of Gila Crossing Community School at Labriola’s space on the Tempe Campus. Thank you to Labriola @ASULabriola for allowing us to use their space and to our Sun Devils: Nataani, Lamar, and Kevin for sharing their knowledge about college 🔱
