It was great seeing @Ngnljibril @rallihir and many other friends at Sakura-Con 2026! I had a lot of fun despite missing a few panels I was interested in. Man I should've done a half-burnt Cheesecake Factory employee cosplay...or Tsubaki with False Rider... 🤣

I have other pleather cosplay pieces that were well-worn and straight up from Taobao and they have not degraded as badly as the Cospa Kirigiri jacket.

Yeah that Kirigiri jacket was like the first major casualty spotted in the piles and piles of cosplay, it is so sad (since I'm a major fan of Cospa) that it got its own thread: x.com/atashi00/statu…

Currently trying to sort through my interfacing scraps. I'm sure some are so old that the adhesive has lost its effectiveness.

Starting off modifying my office/hobby room by replacing the original fan light (which turned out to be GE Savanna model sold in 2017 that was used all of maybe 10 times in 8 years). The new light is a lot flatter and brighter.

@furosuto81 However, the price point does reflect the care and attention that went into the original construction, and that's what I'll try to preserve.

@furosuto81 There's no altering this dying jacket since the pleather on the rest of it is in varying stages of degradation even if it looks fine for now. I wouldn't even reuse any part of it since it'd just fall apart later on.

Damn, I knew this day would come but it's sad to see it now: This is my official @cospa_inc brand Danganronpa Kirigiri Kyoko jacket. The pleather (polyurethane) has degraded over time in storage and it is now cracking and peeling. I have NEVER worn this jacket.

@furosuto81 Cospa's stuff nowadays look great on the mannequin but they tend to be thin and not very durable anymore. Honestly I felt discouraged by the jacket from the start because the silhouette and cut are terrible despite being my size. Super boxy and formless.

@furosuto81 If it was real leather, I would've conditioned it. Pleather is like, how do you even "condition" plastic? If it's high-quality plastic, it'll probably fare better, but usually if it's like so soft and flexible to be fabric but also meet the price point, it won't end well.

The pleather breaking down is irreversible. I'm still going to hold onto the jacket so that I can study the finish and stitchwork. Maybe I can harvest the buttons and make a similar jacket someday.

A brief suspension of belief when somehow the tabard hole is large enough to pull over a cartoon-sized head but then still fit snugly under the collar with no gapping (the width of the sides resting on the shoulders suddenly doubles) Will have to ponder over what's realistic 🤔
