Here’s the part most people don’t realize… 👀♻️ A lot of recycling doesn’t fail at the facility. It fails before it ever gets there. Food left in containers. Greasy cardboard. Plastic bags mixed in. Liquids still inside bottles. Items tossed in because we hope they’re recyclable. EPA says plastic recycling is still low in the U.S....about 3 million tons recycled in 2018, only an 8.7% recycling rate. The rest was mostly landfilled or burned for energy. And contamination makes the problem worse. When recyclables are dirty or mixed with the wrong materials, they can lower the quality of the whole batch and make sorting harder. EPA says food-contaminated containers may not be recyclable, and accepted containers should be scraped or rinsed when needed. That means the little stuff matters: ✅ Empty the bottle ✅ Rinse the jug ✅ Keep recyclables dry ✅ Sort what you can 🚫 Keep greasy scraps out. That’s not “recycling.” That’s contamination. It’s about learning how to do this right so more material has a real chance to become something useful again. 🌍⚡ Clean it. Sort it. Log it. Make it count. 🐋♻️
