@just_vianney @mb_ghalibaf Repeating "ratification" doesn't change the fact that transit rights are customary international law binding on every nation regardless of a treaty signature—go learn the difference between a document and a universal norm.

@atomic_Psyche @mb_ghalibaf You're talking about a treaty that said itself that “THIS TREATY IS SUBJECT TO RATIFICATION” 😂😂😂 Which ever way you want to put it. Iran isn't bound by that Treaty because they didn't ratify it. So they're not breaking a single law.

So you're funding Hegseth the failed TV host at rates unheard of since 2007, so he can cosplay as Secretary of War in our backyard in Hormuz? You know what's crazier than $39 trillion in debt? Paying a pre-GFC premium to fund a LARP and all you'll get is a brand new GFC.

Nice try with the VCLT, but go back to Law 101 and read Article 18; signatories can't undermine a treaty's purpose. You're ignoring Customary International Law, which makes transit rights binding on everyone regardless of ratification. Stop using paperwork loopholes to justify blocking a global chokepoint that the entire world economy relies on.

@atomic_Psyche @mb_ghalibaf At least type with your brain and stop using AI. Meanwhile, Article 14 of the 1969 VCLT states that a country can only be bound by signature if the treaty it is signing says so. While Article 306 of the UNCLOS explicitly says the treaty is subject to ratification by the State

Actually, focusing solely on ratification is a massive oversimplification of how the world works. While Iran hasn’t ratified UNCLOS, the vast majority of its provisions—especially those on freedom of navigation and transit passage—are recognized as customary international law. These rules bind all states regardless of ratification because they reflect established global practice. If nations could simply opt out of maritime law by not ratifying, the global economy would have been in chaos for decades. It’s frustrating to see you ignore that Iran has signed the treaty, which under the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties already obligates it not to undermine the treaty’s core purpose. You’re using a legal loophole to justify blocking a strategic chokepoint, but international law doesn’t allow states to pick and choose which parts of the ocean they own based on a technicality. Stop hiding behind semantics and recognize that customary law governs the Strait of Hormuz for a reason.

@atomic_Psyche @mb_ghalibaf Maybe you're the one who needs to do more reading. Because if you did, you would know that Iran never ratified it. So Iran is not bound by that Treaty. Signing and ratifying a treaty are two different things. And you need to do both to be bound by that treaty.

The math is correct, but the legal conclusion isn't. Under UNCLOS Part III, international straits are governed by the right of "Transit Passage." Even if the waters are territorial, coastal states cannot legally block or suspend international navigation. Strategic chokepoints like Hormuz are treated as global corridors precisely to prevent trade from being held hostage by geography. You've got to read more books.

@atomic_Psyche @mb_ghalibaf I hope you realise the Strait is 24 miles. If Oman takes out 12 and Iran takes out 12 what's left in the strait? So yeah every ship that pass to hormuz all enter Iran's EEZ

@just_vianney @mb_ghalibaf UNCLOS (the 'UN book') confirms that everything beyond 12 miles is open for business. Calling an EEZ your 'backyard' is like claiming you own the sidewalk because you can see it from your window. Global trade doesn't stop just because someone forgot to read Article 58.
