Al Trautwig was as good as it gets, both personally and professionally. They say you should never meet your heroes. In this case, they could not have been more wrong. RIP to a true Titan. There will never be another quite like him.

Very sad to hear the news of Al Trautwig’s passing. Al elevated our @nycmarathon broadcasts with his enthusiasm and gravitas over many years, including when Fred Lebow ran his race while battling cancer in 1994, the day the world came to run & honor NYC in 2001, and the 2007 double weekend with the men’s USA Olympic trials in 2007. Heartbroken over the passing of Al Trautwig. I had the privilege of working alongside him for my first five years at MSG Networks, covering @NYRangers Pre/Post, and intermissions together. Al didn’t just cover New York sports—he lived and breathed them. His passion, knowledge, and presence made every broadcast fun, every banter memorable. He was a mentor, a friend, and a pro’s pro. Rest in peace, Al. 🙏🏻💔
