@Lulamaybelle @auctionguy28 As well as the Bradley Cooper movie, which was perfectly fine and could have gotten at least 10-20 mil a decade ago

@Lulamaybelle @DevelopmenTrack Maybe the movie needed a major distributor then. I think it's a great film. Sad to see it be classified as a bomb while mediocre movies thrive at the box-office. Ann Lee made more per screen than MM even though it, too, bombed because of bad handling. Sad times for indies.
English

@auctionguy28 @DevelopmenTrack That was waaaaay before Disney took them over.
English

@Lulamaybelle @DevelopmenTrack I didn't know Ann Lee got 1100 screens. Searchlight would have had to look at how they marketed Black Swan. In any event, it's a huge loss for a great film.
English

@auctionguy28 @DevelopmenTrack Searchlight definitely wouldn’t have… Remember The Testament of Ann Lee? They didn’t.
English

@DevelopmenTrack @Lulamaybelle Well they needed to hype up the music. Give me the marketing job for this type of film. The music was everything to its success. People did NOT know about this movie. Besides us film critics and insiders. Nobody I know heard of it.
English

@Lulamaybelle @auctionguy28 Yup. Also, the film was shot 3 years ago, and Hathaway has like 6 films coming out this year, which probably informed release. I liked film a lot, but even with double marketing I don’t think it would do that much better.
English

@DevelopmenTrack Warner Bros or even Searchlight would have done much better with this film.
English

@auctionguy28 Most likely means A24 didn’t believe in it sadly and wanted to save an extra 10-20 mil, but contracts stipulated by actress or director required a certain amount of theaters for a specific window.
