Iran Protests Update: - Protests began on Dec 28, 2025, in Tehran, triggered by the rial's plunge to ~1.45M per USD, and continued for the 9th day as of Jan 5, 2026. - Demonstrations have spread to over 50 cities across multiple provinces, shifting from bazaar strikes to anti-regime chants and clashes in places like Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, Hamadan, Qom, and beyond—including deadly violence in Malekshahi (Ilam Province), where 3-5 protesters were killed, and over 30 others were injured on Jan 3, followed by a hospital raid to arrest the wounded. - In Tehran, strikes have spread to markets such as Cheragh Bargh, Sepah Salar, and Ahangaran amid clashes, heavy police presence, and internet disruptions; protests have occurred in districts including Nazi Abad, Aryashahr, Tehransar, Haft Hoz, Punak, Sattar Khan, and Moniriyeh. - Casualties: No official figures released yet, but reports indicate at least 20 deaths (19 civilians, 1 security force member) and hundreds injured in clashes (including nearly 300 security/Basij forces).
