been seeing ppl saying that it’s ridiculous that jw was “forced” to apologize, but i think that’s a reflection of a greater issue in kpop: we need to normalize kpop idols taking accountability for their mistakes. we all mess up. we’re all human. i know he didn’t do it on purpose, and i don’t blame him for not knowing about everything happening in the world, but it still happened. this concept that kpop idols shouldn’t have to apologize for anything they do is so fucking weird to me. we’ve all seen that, in kpop, a lot of idols have worn things that are offensive or culturally insensitive. none of us need a reminder that mark literally wore a confederate flag shirt a month ago, and people were defending him to the death over that and saying that he did nothing wrong. can we all please agree that that’s fucking insane? we are essentially treating these these kpop idols like gods, but they’re not. yes, we love them and idolize them, but that does not excuse them from well-deserved criticism. if you’re in so deep that you think they’re incapable of making mistakes and therefore do not need to apologize for anything they do, you REALLY need to take a step back.
