People are commenting (reacting) with emotion because they’re not used to seeing that sort of behaviour. The police officer is doing what he had to do in that situation. 👍

The reasons that is no a good idea. 1. He’s intoxicated and under the influence of another substance. 2. There I only a single officer waiting for backup 3. He is in custody and the safest place for him and everyone else in the vicinity is inside the car 4. He is aggressive and the risk of further physical confrontation where you can’t control the surroundings is high. 5. If a confrontation occurs once out of the car and he does a runner into oncoming vehicles and gets injured or dies guess who wears the consequences? The officer. There are many more hypotheticals I could pose but the main things are covered

@9NewsAUS I think the most useful messaging from police, public prosecutors and judges re this stuff is that cars can be deadly weapons, so the standard of behaviour we’re held to when operating them should be very high. We should show no lenience to people who use cars to injure &/or kill
