
It’s not the trucks that are the issue - it’s the infrastructure and extra time they consume.
Many trucks run 24hrs a day, EV’s can’t do that yet. Also every charge point needs millions of dollars worth of substations, buffering batteries and high voltage lines connected to deliver the amount of power required.
The average semi has ~1000L of fuel on them (1200-2000km range), the long/heavy haul ones have 2000+L.
For the heavy haul trucks they can use 200L+ per 100km. Electric isn’t going to cut it, a Tesla semi would need a recharge every 1-1.5hours.
