The bottom line is that they knowingly chose to go to a place where hideous crimes were being committed and they chose complicity in those crimes. They exposed their children to and possibly encouraged them in commission of barbarity. They are not welcome and this government is complicit by their current actions, no matter how they spin it!

Maybe not in the narrowest technical sense. But let’s be honest: doing little to prevent their return, while facilitating travel documents, isn’t neutrality, it’s complicity dressed up as semantics. This is what eroding standards look like. Individuals linked to a terrorist regime are able to come back with minimal resistance, while Australians who stood against extremism are scrutinised, sidelined, and worse hounded by the commonwealth. You can spin the language all you like, but people aren’t stupid. The gap between what’s said and what’s done is exactly why trust in government keeps collapsing.
