Read this thread and ask yourself. Would the Defence Editor of The Economist have kept his job if he got something so horribly wrong about the IDF?
Owen Jones@owenjonesjourno

Have you ever apologised for this, @shashj? Or explained why you falsely claimed there was “first-hand evidence”? This isn’t a minor mistake. The grotesque lie that Israeli babies were beheaded was used to justify slaughtering countless actual Palestinian babies.

CBFC screened this film. Found ZERO objectionable content. Still killed it, orally. No written rejection. Because they know this censorship can’t survive judicial scrutiny. US, UK, France, Italy; all screened it. ALL have diplomatic ties with Israel. Only Modi’s India believes a murdered 6-year-old is a “diplomatic threat.” The film won Venice’s Grand Jury Prize. It’s Oscar-nominated. And this government is more worried about Netanyahu’s comfort than Article 19(1)(a) of our own Constitution. The “world’s largest democracy”, too fragile to let its citizens watch a child’s truth. Suppressing art to protect a foreign government’s image isn’t foreign policy. It’s surrender.

"A growing number of Indians travel abroad. They come back wide-eyed with barely believed tales of clean air, drivable roads and rubbish collection. Holidaymakers who have never heard of purchasing power still know that Vietnam and Uzbekistan are not rich Western countries. Somehow these places manage feats—such as conjuring pavements into existence—that the world’s “fourthlargest economy” cannot."

Tiny towns in Australia and England produce more Olympic champions than our entire 1.4 billion strong population. Scarcity and desperation are not the pillars to build sport on.

Mumbai University didn’t allow Naseeruddin Shah to speak. So, Mumbaikars turned up in large numbers to hear him deliver the talk at an alternate venue, with Anand Patwardhan moderating it. A full house for him, and a rebuke for those who tried to silence him.

@shrutammegopaya The history of the Axomiya people (and the kingdom) is truly fascinating ... the Kra-Dai root, the assimilation, remaining traits in rituals, burial mounds - it's a treasure trove

+1 We should learn more about North East. I am a reasonably well read guy but totally ignorant. For e.g. I only learnt today that Bodo is a Tibeto-Burman language while Khasa is an Austro-Asiatic langauge. Didn't know those two are so remote to each other. Another tidbit - Assamese is the easternmost Indo-European language in the world!

Dear mainland Indians, We, the people of the Northeast, are not your jokes, not your stereotypes, and not your slurs. We are not ‘spa-wali,’ not ‘momo-wali,’ and never objects of exploitation. We are Indians—born of this land, bound by its Constitution, and equal in dignity, identity, and rights. Our faces may look different, our cultures may be distinct, but our patriotism is no less, our pain is no less, and our belonging is unquestionable. Respect us. Recognize us. We are India. 😢🙏

@gauravsabnis Even if one wants to highlight electricity and such, Maxwell is a bigger shout imo. And of course there's Shannon, but he's underrated and not much of a known name.

This is called arrogance of ignorance. Relativity concepts are central to GPS systems and a lot of modern electrical and electronic products. Also look up what Einstein won a nobel for. Photoelectric effect. You're exactly the kind of idiot I'm calling out.
garypaul@garypaul2

@gauravsabnis No. I don't use much relativity in my day to day life. I use a lot of electrical products.

Between 1998 & 2008 is the only period in time when India Pakistan was an actual real cricket rivalry. With history and lore and narratives and characters. Rivalries need continuity. 98-08 period gave the rivalry continuity. Since then it is blah jingoism, not rivalry.

I was lucky enough to follow cricket at the only time the India Pakistan rivalry was an actual cricket rivalry. When the two teams actually played regularly enough for there to be a meaningful rivalry. Not just inconsequential commercial spectacles like today.

Kick It Out
Kick It Out@kickitout·
Kick It Out statement: Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments are disgraceful and deeply divisive at a time when football does so much to bring communities together. In addition to the inaccurate figures mentioned, it’s worth reminding him that Manchester United has a diverse fan base and plays in a city whose cultural history has been enriched by immigrants. This type of language and leadership has no place in English football, and we believe most fans will feel the same.
