Good questions to ask when a company comes looking for public money: would this project happen anyway (usually yes, research shows), what do residents get in return (as in, written into the contract, not claims in a press release) and on what could the money be used on instead?

What would Tampa Bay do with $2.3 billion? Would they fix more roads, upgrade and open more parks, give veterans more services, offer free childcare to working families? The possibilities are endless. What 10/10 probably wouldn't choose? Giving it to a billionaire sports owner.

This is utterly extraordinary. If Hegseth et al got this wrong, think what else is happening with the drug boat strikes and much more. The U.S. Said It Helped Bomb a Drug Camp. It Was a Dairy Farm. Gets worse as you read it. 1/

The US government collected over $1 billion in immigration fees then refused to process the applications. No denials. No refunds. Just silence. This is the largest fee fraud in the history of the American immigration system. Here's what's happening. 🧵

A billionaire business associate of Jeffrey Epstein is bankrolling a massive data center campus here in Western NY. The man's work with Epstein? Restructuring financial holdings to avoid paying taxes. He now wants $1.4B in tax breaks for the data center. investigativepost.org/2026/03/19/dat…

I coined the terms "surveillance wages" and "surveillance prices" a few years back to try to wake people up to how totally dystopian the price and wage world we are entering is. SO gratifying to see state AGs now seeking outright bans and incredible grateful to @EmeritaTorresNY leading the fight In New. York. I believe we are going to ban surveillance prices in New York. Wages next.

@unitehere @Shift_HKS @Kennedy_School 11/ There was also this line that "nobody wants to work anymore" which was almost completely untrue. Rather the evidence was that bosses didn't want to hire anyone anymore. Any yet that narrative never arose. Until now!

This is a huge problem. The American people gave companies *tons* of grace during the pandemic, and they saw precisely how much slack they had and decided to take even more. I don't know the incentives to fix this, but unionization & making owners/managers miserable is a start.

1/ As I reported my book, I noticed something that has completely changed American life: widespread chronic under-staffing. It leads to, among other things, deadly medication errors at pharmacies, flight delays, messy stores, and the crime wave. From me today @TheProspect

You read stuff like this (great article) and it’s like … Honestly, how did it take us so long to get here? The *obvious* route in a system like capitalism is to understaff and pass the cost of that choice onto the worker and the consumer.

The VA lost about 700 social workers and 500 psychologists and psychiatrists over the course of 2025 — a significant change for an agency that was adding mental health staffers nearly every month leading up to Trump’s return to office. Read more: propub.li/3P4KLbo

“When you have predominantly multimillionaires who are making policy decisions for over 300 million Americans, those policy debates and discussions are distorted by the fact that the decision-makers are extremely wealthy individuals,”

The Senate is a millionaires club 💰 73% of senators have a median net worth of more than $1 million, compared to just 7% of the U.S. population! That's one of the many findings from Capitol Gains, a @NOTUSreports project all about wealth in Congress notus.org/capitol-gains/…

Today's strike at one of the Big Four meatpackers underscores the harsh reality of the overconcentrated industry: CEOs and middlemen are getting rich, while workers are barely making ends meet. It's time to break up the Big Four meatpackers.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Nearly 4,000 meatpacking workers are on strike in Colorado — the first big strike the industry has seen in decades. They work for JBS, an immensely corrupt company that's harming U.S. consumers, and its own workers.
