I have been observing the political dynamics for a while, and I must say we seem to have two different sets of men: the master strategists who plan, deploy decoys, and strike, and the latecomers who react after the meal is already over.
For months, the electoral bill was before the National Assembly. Members of the opposition were also among the legislators. They saw the bill and had full access to it, but I am not sure many of them actually read it. Only after several months did we begin to hear the word “real-time” in this context. They were reacting to what some activists were echoing, believing that was the main issue. They thought they had discovered something significant, only to realize just yesterday that the issue of direct primaries was actually the real icing on the cake. Too late?
They gathered in Abuja not because of anything related to real-time transmission, but because they had just discovered the hidden treasure.
Again, when INEC announced February 20, 2027 as the election date, they played opposition politics and began attacking the date, citing a deliberate attempt to create voter apathy. INEC responded by agreeing to listen, and the date was then adjusted to January 16, 2027.
Party membership registers must be submitted 21 days before primaries. Now tell me, how does a political party filled with reactive people navigate a situation like this?
They cannot complain because they asked for the dates to be shifted.
They cannot complain because the bills were at the National Assembly for months, yet the only public conversation centered around real-time transmission.
Direct primaries are not a joke. They require significant organization and resources.
And while all this was happening, one person was quietly watching events unfold, consolidating his base, meeting the requirements for direct primaries, and digitizing party membership.
In life, foresight matters.
My advice to the opposition is that Mr. Obi should return to his former platform, LP, while leaving the new coalition vehicle to Atiku. This may appear to be the easiest decision to make, but the outcome would still be predictable.
In truth, the 2027 election may have been effectively decided since 2023.

AIG Tunde Disu joined the NPF in '92 while DIG Frank MBA joined in '94. Frank MBA got double promotion to the rank of DIG under same Asiwaju to fulfill the Federal Character since there was no one from SE as at that time that a DIG was due for retirement. The President has the prerogative as regard the appointment of IGP.
