@sal87979 Disagree that it’s not sustainable. UConn, Michigan, Duke, Houston, all the top programs still utilize HS recruits and use the portal to fill holes while staying competitive and established a culture in which guys want to stay and develop and I believe that is possible with CRP.

@ayedeegs The issue with high school recruits, is if they aren't ready, they don't impact. If they are, they leave quickly (better deal / NBA). Not sustainable anymore. It's a rebuild ea yr from now on either way.

The biggest problem currently with #sjubb is Pitino’s refusal to recruit out of high school. Every year he has to fully rely on the portal and revamp 85% of his roster. St. John’s simply isn’t getting these top guys in the portal. Build through HS and then supplement with portal.

@Guinea_Guappo @schultzmedia Definitely agree with the mid majors I just feel like if they’re trying to sell being developed by Pitino a 5 star or 2 wouldn’t hurt surrounded by those guys and some euroleaguers 😭

@schultzmedia @ayedeegs Also the high schoolers demand a lot of money and guaranteed playing time with the only evidence they have to demand these things is high school tapes. Mid major guys are safer, they’ve shown they can play in D1

@schultzmedia Agreed however whos to say they bolt for the portal? Once Pitino gets them they rarely leave if he likes them and SJU already shown they have the NIL to offer these top portal guys so why not use that toward one of your own? Hed have the advantage of already having a relationship

@ayedeegs Problem is… a high school kid who has a decent year will bolt for the portal anyway, so if you’re looking for a one year player do you want an 18 year old or a euro pro? Would prefer it was the HS kid, but until they sort this portal garbage out I’ll take the experienced guy.

@TalkinJohnnies 2 yrs in a row they go all in on their top target and whiff. Sure they had top class last yr but to my point, they started off slow and had no chem, thats due to fully relying on portal and having little continuity. All the top programs recruit HS except us 🤷♂️ think it would help
