I've been enjoying some more traditional things lately—one of them is writing. I'm actually surprised by the clarity I get by doing this. So far, I have written on more personal topics, specifically regarding financial planning with my wife, and I think it is always that feeling when the article is all done, and we read it, and we are like, "yeah, this is what we actually do". haha One topic I'm thinking about now is "what I really want"—more of a long-term vision vibe. And this is important because things change so quickly that there's a tendency to just follow the flow, rather than work towards a clear path. I also believe that with writing, it is important to date it—things change, opinions change, mindsets change. So there can always be a version 2 or 3 of the same topic. You can check out the article on how my wife and I plan finances here: heyfinance.co/blog/how-we-pl…. This is also the idea on which heyFinance was built

It's a new year, and one that I’m grateful for. In the previous year, I had a lot of experiences, which can be summarised in two things: relationships and opportunities. The year was mostly about @heyfinanceapp—I decided to have a shot at building a product of my own, and taste a bit of the entrepreneurial life. The first line of code was pushed 17th January, 2025, so it's not even a year yet, but it’s been incredible. I'm grateful for all the support I received—from my wife, family, friends who support me unconditionally, friends I made through the course of the journey, and other people who decided to support me for whatever reason. Thank you! The highlight of the year for this chapter was in December. We started getting users who created an account and selected that they heard about us through a friend/colleague. Yeah, that was really something, and I’m happy about it. It's a new year, and I look ahead with so much excitement. There are lots of amazing memories to be created. And like the previous year, a couple of bold decisions to be made. Cheers to a great time this year 🥂 And if you've been following the journey up until this point, a couple of things happened last month. I wrote about them here: heyfinance.co/blog/whats-new…

I’ve been pondering on this vision vs reality topic recently I think life is life, and a lot of times, it has a way of dictating what we should do. Like that’s basically what’s in front of you Without a vision, all we see is reality. So, rather than breaking things down from top, you’re creating future plans from bottom Basic example: Vision - I want to buy a €500,000 house cash Reality - I am saving €8,000 a year By calculation: with 8k per year, it takes 62.5 years to save 500k Going from top to reality: how can I break this 500k to one small action I can take everyday to even give it a fighting chance. From reality to top: okay, my vision is not possible. If I do 8k for 20years, maybe I can get a 160k house. Bigger issue is, when a challenge comes up, we replan again from this position. There has to be an intersection somewhere. But I believe it should be more top to reality planning This is more from a religious context, but I believe the same principles apply “Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:2-3 NKJV” Live in the reality, but always see the vision. Paste it on the walls of your room. Look at it daily. This is the conclusion I have come to If not, life will tell you what to do. That’s what it does

Customizations are live 🚀🚀. You can now select what you want to achieve with heyFinance, and the things you do not need will be hidden. And this can be modified anytime afterwards. E.g., if you’re in a season where debt tracking is not relevant to you, you can turn it off.

I've just added the possibility to customize your @heyfinanceapp account to fit your needs and financial season. The goal is to be comprehensive, yet simple. Previously, you'd have Goals, Budgets, Debts, Receivables, etc. Now, you decide what you care about right now, and you can always change it in the future. The overview page is also customizable, so you decide what you want to see when you log in to your account. And what is even more powerful is that if you're planning with your partner, these preferences affect you alone. Your partner can decide what they prefer. I recorded a video on YouTube to talk about how it works: youtube.com/watch?v=cf8oYx…

@heyfinanceapp is now couples first, and I’ve updated the website to reflect it. In summary, if you plan your finances like my wife and I, heyFinance will be GREAT for you. If not, it wouldn’t. And that’s okay You can check our new website here: heyfinance.co
