@Azadux I´ve tried to like 360 cameras for scan but... light conditions, mpx, optics, aberrations, color corrections, low light. I dont see it for drones. Good planning, good optics, good sensor

360 drones are quite remarkable for 3D scanning Some initial thoughts: - speed: Holy fing hell, you can scan areas soooo quickly. A statue is captured in a few minutes, and whole building in 5, and multiple building blocks in 10! - perspective: 360 let’s you get as close as you’d like to your subject without worrying about having too narrow of a FOV for image alignment to work out. You can fly WITHIN the street you’d like to capture rather than above - confidence: omnidirectional obst avoidance + the fact that I’m capturing in every direction meant that I could fly the camera through areas that I wouldn’t have with a typical mavic - GSD trade off: the GSD resolution (pixel/cm) is definitely much lower than any non-360 drone. To mitigate, either you can fly closer to the subject, or shoot additional images with a non-360 drone - no flight planning: currently, scanning is all manual and with no repeatability. Hopefully DJI releases an SDK soon

@AkinBilgic Nice, thanks for digging into it! FYI the 120mp images take about 10s to finish writing to disc

@Azadux Thx! the fisheye RAWs are great. The 960px thing is just the embedded preview in the DNG- opening in Camera Raw/Lightroom gives the full 7680px data. If you took ~20 images at different positions, could determine the lens' info to make a RealityScan-friendly rectilinear converter

Got my hands on a DJI Avata 360! First impressions - it’s a big drone! Much, much larger than antigravity a1 or mavic mini 4 pro - the 360 cameras are also quite large - it is LOUD. Wow. There’s no being subtle with this drone. - omnidirectional obstacles avoidance very quite effective - you can fly it indoors with 0 drift. Prop guards give piece of mind - the lenses are very exposed. Will likely scratch it soon. I recommend the lens replacement kit accessory! (Wish I bought one) - I’m controlling it with my mini 4 pro’s controller (DJI RC2). I’m really glad I don’t need to fly it with FOV goggles Overall, I expect the image quality to be better than antigravity’s but…. I the size and loudness are a VERY big factor to consider For most people, tbh I probably would recommend the A1 purely from a noise/size perspective I think this will be a more professional 360 camera More to come!

@andrepcg @janusch_patas To continue training after training ends you have to import a checkpoint file But yes, in general the more the merrier however there’s lots of diminishing returns depending on the dataset I typically train to 15k. Sometimes 30, 50, and above for larger, higher quality datasets

@janusch_patas what about training steps? the more the merrier? I don't recall if we can continue training over the set number of steps after training ends

Massive VRAM improvements and 8K training are coming to LichtFeld Studio. Since the last nightly build, you can already experience major VRAM improvements based on this wonderful paper: "VkSplat: High-Performance 3DGS Training in Vulkan Compute" This enables uncapped training, which will be merged today and made available in the next nightly builds to all current supporters. If you haven’t already, please consider supporting the project. Bronze sponsoring, for instance, costs much less than a yearly paid subscription to closed-source competitors, offers better quality and many more features, brings your brand onto the homepage, and lets you use LichtFeld Studio forever. @bilawalsidhu Haven’t done enough testing to substantiate the stitching. They’re quite different products actually and with big trade offs. But I have a sense I’m going to lean more heavily on the avata than a1 for a number of reasons

@Azadux Would you go with the DJI or antigravity for 3dgs? The sensor seems much nicer on the DJI but I’m seeing some comments about stitching artifacts in the equirect

My @LKGGlass portrait has a pretty bad burn-in :/ I’ve had it running in my desk for a while on a single 3d model. I assumed it was an LCD without much of a chance of burn-in, so I never tried to prevent it. Dang

@elaifresh the sunset is so absymal the older blocks (bw lincoln and irving) do have trees. the rest of the neighborhood doesnt there are some trees planted now by the "friends of the urban forest" group but they'll take a while to grown in

Built a quick analysis of street tree canopy cover in SF with open data Filtering out backyard trees - just the trees you'd walk by on the street Generally what you'd expect but found some crazy unexpected outliers! Henry and Castro pictured - who knew? Nearby streets are bare!

i just captured some sample data for ya - drive.google.com/drive/folders/… - DJI_20260427190405_0012_D is a normal mp4 - DJI_20260427190415_0013_D is DLOG mp4 - DJI_20260427190437_0014_D is a 120mp photo (left in screenshot) - DJI_20260427190458_0015_D is a 30mp photo (right in screenshot) seems like it does save each camera's view separately however when you open each image (PNGs), it shows up as a 960x960 image but 43mb. odd so some digging is necessary

@Azadux Sweet! Have you checked if it can give you dual Fisheye RAW images (not stitched) like the Insta360 can? I've read conflicting reports. If so it'd be amazing if you could share a few sample RAWs for some profiling.

@GabRoXR True. any consumer drone >250g is essentially a prosumer/professional drone

@Azadux I don't know exactly what are the regulations in the US but an over 250gr drone in EU basically means you need to drive 1 hour in any direction to find an empty spot with nothing in it to scan...

@Azadux Interesting, didn’t think you’d recommend the Antigravity A1 for most! I think the headset and motion control requirement are a non-starter for many people, just sold the A1 unit I bought for my father because it was too complicated for him. I’m considering Avata 360 for myself.

I wouldn’t recommend a 360 drone as a starter drone tbh. The post processing workflow is super cumbersome for videos. I only bought one to do 3d reconstructions and Gaussian splats :) For him, I recommend any of the DJI mavic minis (the little drone on the left in my video). They’re absolutely fantastic for beginners and advanced users. Super high quality videos, super easy to use, very quiet, great omnidirectional collision avoidance If you’re outside of the US, DJI just released the Lito, which is a new low end drone that has most of the same features for a lower price.

@Azadux What about for the obstacle avoidance? Does the antigravity do well for that? Was thinking about getting it for my dad who’s new to drone flying
