This right here really hit me in the gut. It's that bad in LA During my city council race last year in Pittsburgh, I received feedback from people in my neighborhood who didn't vote at all and feedback from the people who didn't vote for me. The common reason was "we are used to the way it is, she wants to change everything". When you grow up in a neighborhood with condemned properties and blight everywhere you think that is normal. It never had to be that way! I heard the stories from the elders of my district who described thriving neighborhoods filled with stores and other businesses. This really hits me because decades of failed leadership can keep cities and their neighborhoods declining and the next generation won't know the difference.

I am not detached. I live here and I see it. I was raised the daughter of a public servant and brothers who served in police and military. I was raised to not settle for less than I deserve and the people who are afraid of "more" never had anyone who showed them they deserved more.
