@MyNochuSquad @souzoshiyou Even if “this city” is the only label used, that doesn’t justify unclear or inconsistent background choices during a time skip. The story still has a responsibility to establish where we are visually. also i didn’t hate ian’s choice I hate that i didn’t get to see his healing 1+

I have never used sketch up models but I will definitely not judge fellow artists who uses them. That's what they're for. Use it. A single background commission took me 2-3 months. Yoneyama Mai, YEEJ- the GOATs also uses them.

so you just picked random backgrounds for the finale of your bl debut manhwa? zero efforts into your own work and consideration for your readers. How lazy and uncreative… You could have at least made it make sense. lmaao like what????

In the digital art industry, many artists do not draw every background from scratch, especially when working on projects that require fast production, such as novel covers, webtoons, promotional illustrations, or commissioned artwork.
Common practices include:
- Purchasing pre-made background assets.
- Buying 3D models of rooms, buildings, streets, and other environments, then setting up the camera angle and drawing over them.
- Using asset libraries from art software such as Clip Studio Paint, which provides downloadable 3D models and background resources.
- Using properly licensed photographs as references or modifying them for artwork.
- Using AI-generated backgrounds and then editing or painting over them.
In manga, webtoons, and commercial illustration, purchasing backgrounds or using 3D models is very common because it saves a significant amount of time.
Therefore, when someone says:
"The background is random."
they may simply mean that the artist used a pre-made background asset or added a generic background to avoid leaving the image empty. It does not necessarily mean that the artist personally drew the entire background from scratch.
😌In the art and fan art community, "random backgrounds" usually refers to backgrounds that are added arbitrarily or do not have any significant meaning related to the main subject of the artwork. They are simply used to make the image feel less empty.
For example:
- Drawing a character and adding a sky, clouds, flowers, geometric patterns, or colorful lighting effects in the background without any special meaning.
- Drawing a ship pairing and adding hearts, stars, or a bokeh effect in the background purely for aesthetic purposes.
- Using pre-made backgrounds or random textures instead of drawing an actual location or setting.
When people comment:
"The background is random."
or
"Just a random background."
they usually mean:
"The background doesn't carry any particular meaning. It's just there to make the artwork look fuller or more visually appealing."
Sometimes, people in fandoms try to read too much into a background—for example, assuming it hints at future plot developments or reveals something about the relationship between the characters. In those cases, the artist may respond with something like:
"It's just a random background."
meaning:
"It's simply a background I added without any special intention or hidden message."
So, the phrase is often used to tell people not to overanalyze the background, because the artist did not intend for it to have any deeper meaning.

Let’s look at the context here: the story spent a long time in new york. Then there’s a time skip, the mc is shown in a completely different environment, and Toby literally says, “You brought me to this city.” Wouldn’t it be logical to show or mention what city they’re in?
