@kavinbm Gov should have focused on regulating the gaming industry with licenses and ensuring that gaming platforms behave ethically and do not engage in cheating. But instead, it seems like they’ve just taken the easy route by banning everything.

After 4 years building Rush in India, we’ve made a tough decision: exit India completely and go all-in on the US & global markets. Why? The Govt of India has made its stance clear: Real Money Gaming will not be allowed. Another potential GST bump to 40% incoming, years of regulatory ambiguity, and now a bill rushed through to ban all RMG without industry consultation. The message is loud and clear. We are disappointed. Not just for ourselves, but for the entrepreneurs, developers & teams who poured their hearts and billions of dollars into building this sector. At the same time, we respect the Govt’s right to take a moral stance on what it believes is best for society. Policy-making is complex and involves hard trade-offs especially in large democracies. What we wish: that this decision had been made sooner, with clearer communication. It would have saved billions in investment and avoided leaving the industry in limbo. This isn’t the first signal. India also chose not to embrace crypto, leaving the promise of Web3 ownership which is the very foundation of what we’re building. By contrast, the US is moving toward clarity. The Genius Act for stablecoins has passed. The Clarity Act for tokens is on the horizon. Together, they create one of the most exciting environments in the world to build in Web3. And that’s why we’re excited. Our early US/global metrics are already stronger: • 10x higher ARPU • 2x better retention • Superior ROAS The US also opens up new business models beyond RMG — Advertising & Virtual Goods — categories already worth billions, with far higher consumer spend than India. And globally, we finally have the room to unlock our Hike Gaming Nation vision: a Company 2.0 where players aren’t just participants, but citizens and owners of the networks they help build. The dark side of Indian crypto exchanges. With crypto adoption growing rapidly in India, I felt it's important to share this now. Many new investors may not be aware of the risks posed by the very platforms they trust with their funds. This post is a reminder that several Indian exchanges have failed to take responsibility when things went wrong, leaving users helpless. Take WazirX. More than ₹2000 crore worth of user funds are gone. There has been no clear explanation, no accountability, and no response from the founders. Users are left in the dark, while regulators remain silent due to the lack of proper laws. Bitbns is another case. In 2022, the exchange suffered a major hack but chose to hide it by claiming they were undergoing maintenance. It was only later that independent researchers uncovered the truth. No formal apology or compensation process was ever shared. Koinex, once a well-known exchange, shut down its operations in 2019. They blamed regulatory uncertainty, but users reported issues withdrawing their money. There was no structured closure or public process to return funds properly. PocketBits also became unresponsive after building a user base. People reported that their funds were stuck, and the platform stopped communicating altogether. Many are still waiting to recover their assets. In each of these cases, users lost trust and money. Yet, no one was held accountable. At the same time, the government has enforced strict tax rules like TDS and GST on crypto trades. But there are still no clear laws or frameworks to protect users when exchanges collapse or act irresponsibly. This is not about asking for too much regulation. It is about asking for basic safeguards. Users deserve transparency, clear terms of liability, and a way to seek help when things go wrong. Until these protections are in place, every Indian crypto user is at risk. Not just from market volatility, but from the very platforms they rely on. In contrast, top global exchanges provide regular proof of reserves, address incidents publicly, and maintain clear communication with their users. Transparency is not a feature, it is a standard.
