As we await Brycen Mautz’s ML debut, I just want to take a second to applaud him for turning himself into a big leaguer, and the new development group for helping him get there. Two full seasons ago, he had languished with the old devy group. Now he’s a real major leaguer

It's a fleck-sized sample, but hard to imagine #STLCards RH reliever Ryan Fernandez doing better (at MLB) than he has in '26. In 5 games, 7.2 IP, 1.17 ERA and 40.6% strikeout rate. Struck out 43% of RHB and 39% of LHB.

After a booming start to '26, Jordan Walker went backward in a 16-game downturn marked by a .216 BA, .255 SLG and 37% strikeout rate. (Oh, no!) Well, no worries. Since that low point: 21 games, .333/.400/.679 with 1.079 OPS, 7 HR, 22 RBIs and 16.6% strikeout rate. #STLCards

Among 39 MLB lefty relievers with minimum 20 IP this season #STLCards Justin Bruihl is 36th with 5.56 ERA, and has worst xERA (5.12) and FIP (5.25). I'm having unsettling Jeff Fassero (2003) and Brett Cecil (2018) flashbacks. #Enough

After a 4-hit, 2-HR, 7-RBI doubleheader at Reds, #STLCards Jordan Walker is tied-5th in MLB with 2.3 fWAR. Based on fWAR, over the 2024-25 seasons (combined), Walker was worst position player in MLB at minus 1.9 fWAR. And now t-5th in '26? Amazing.

The problem here was making frequent mistakes on personnel decisions, payroll investments, and allowing the farm-development system structure rust and fall behind industry trends. That's all changing.
