And take The Diary of Anne Frank and every other gruesome, genocidal story out of the 4th Grade Reading Comprehension curriculum too! There is no child-friendly way to tell those stories. If they are included at all, they should be covered in High School and delivered with a full historical context.. preferably in a History class. Dropping these heavy topics in random stories designed to teach vocabulary words feels slightly sadistic to me. The example used to teach Conjunctions shouldn't have information about Slavery in it.. there is something perverse about that
