Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: I heard Ibn Taymiyyah say: ‘If you do not find sweetness in your heart and a sense of openness from an act of worship, then question that deed. For Allah, the Exalted, is Most Appreciative (Ash-Shakūr). This means that He must reward the servant for his deed in this world with a sweetness the person finds in the heart, a feeling of ease, and comfort to the eyes. So when a person does not find that, then the deed is deficient or flawed.’”
