Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

You don’t understand. You don’t know the result before it happens. You can’t be like “see I survived” as an argument. It’s like hitting tail once and thinking you’re gonna hit it again next time. You don’t know the outcome, your individual vote doesn’t change the outcome, there’s no point pressing blue. I can’t dumb it more down.

@babibobulo @SSJLane @PErwinsson @ISavatgy @MrBeast Sure you can. You vote for the world you want to see. Do you want to see half the babies on the planet murdered? Vote red. If not, vote blue. That's the honest vote. You can't just vote red and ignore the dead babies you voted for.

@babibobulo @PErwinsson @john_woody @ISavatgy @MrBeast you're ignoring the human element. there is a decent portion of people that are thinking about everyone as a whole as opposed to only themselves living. they're going to vote blue. that doesn't make their vote meaningless for wanting the highest likelihood of everyone living

@SSJLane @PErwinsson @john_woody @ISavatgy @MrBeast I think what I’m getting at is that in the thought experiment you do not have time to debate with me or your mother. Everyone votes blind with zero knowledge about the end distribution. In this setup you literally cannot impact the distribution in any way.

@SSJLane @PErwinsson @john_woody @ISavatgy @MrBeast It’s not selfish because my choice has no impact on the overall distribution. The correct framing is “it is stupid to pick blue”. Your vote won’t change the outcome. If you believe your vote will change the result you gotta stop with the drugs.

@babibobulo @grok @my_2cents__ I have a baby that will not likely make the optimal choice. I'm pushing blue because I can't risk their life. Is that optimal game theory?

I’m not gonna force you to push any particular button. Why would you want to force people’s choice? The point is: you can’t impact the distribution, so from your standpoint, the results are static, already precomputed. You pick from there. Picking blue won’t save anyone if they lose: it will just kill you. And there is no way for you to change the result. It’s not more complicated than that. Let people choose and deal with the consequences.

@dedosdeceniza @babibobulo @grok @doxntme In both scnarios the votes are private, the trolley one makes it easier to visualise how fking stupid you are for picking blue. That's it.

@dedosdeceniza @grok @doxntme @ad64701 Dude I’m not gonna grift because idiots don’t understand math and die as a result. But maybe there’s enough idiots for them to survive, which is arguably a worse conclusion that may prove democracy is just smoke and mirrors: people don’t think.

@babibobulo @grok @doxntme @ad64701 can we be honest here for a second? we are both pressing red because we don't want to die. we don't need to debate it with strangers over the internet who think they are the main character of some mistery thriller button game. if it's live or die, im living. ill be sad about it.

It doesn’t change the problem. If a relative pressed blue and blue lost, my vote won’t save them, it would just kill me. Your vote is just a sample in 8 billion. It has no impact. Voting blue is irrational from a game theory standpoint. Blue pressers are probably terrible at board games.

@babibobulo @grok @doxntme @ad64701 differences: one vote is anonymous, so you don't know who did vote what. the other is public, you can see it, you can see the death coming. you don't know if someone you know and cared about pressed blue. if you did see them, you would... save them right???

I will just say it, the whole ''100% vs 50%'' argument from blues is a joke. I don't care about reaching 100% survival rate, because those who died did so willingly. Don't suicide and make me responsible for your actions. ''B-but we have to save the retards''. Most blues think like that, therefore, you are the retards.

@wotdafutz @grok @my_2cents__ It’s not a moral dilemma. There’s an optimal choice assuming ignorance of the shape of the distribution of pushes. It’s game theory.

@johnpalmer No, it comes down to “will you risk your life to save irrational people”. And this may be irrational to do so.

- If all humans are rational, everyone picks red. - But we know many humans are not rational - Therefore, red means 100% survival, but greater chance non-rational humans die - Blue increases chance all humans live, including non-rational ones So it just comes down to if you think it’s good for non-rational humans to exist.

@se7ENhaeNdeR @NumberedWater You realize it was safe to let kids wander outside by themselves 30 years ago and it’s not true anymore? I guess people have different views on what “safety” is. Also we were not poisoning ourselves with pesticides back in the days, so less cancers to treat.

@babibobulo @NumberedWater Obviously. But we also didn't have the generally incredibly safe society we have now. Police, medicine, etc. ... I'm not saying self preservation is completely useless. It's just not the overwhelming factor because I don't live (or wanna live) in dark times like back then.

@babibobulo @NumberedWater This might be the best argument for red I've seen all day. I still don't agree, because it still has the guaranteed self preservation as its only upside and I don't wanna live in that society. It's like choosing pure vigilante justice as your judicial system instead of courts.

@Greenpig117 @ZSVIII You think your vote has an actual impact on the distribution shape? Religious people have less wacky faith than that.
