The Obama center is the only presidential library NOT 100% privately funded. That's the message. And why? On foot traffic: The center will be used by University of Chicago for their purposes (not visitors). The local public library inside the Center will see what usual public library gets. And would be free. What the Center will get is flow over foot traffic in the summer from Griffin Museum, and parents visiting their kids at the university. That would be the optimal. But a special journey as with the other presidential libraries? Reagan gets the most foot traffic. And that also says something about us Americans and our politics.

First, it's not a library, it's a "center". Obama couldn't get enough private funding to build his library. University of Chicago endowment is paying part, so the building includes floors for the university. The taxpayers in Chicago chipped in, so there's a library in this center. And all taxpayers pay to archive and manage Obama's papers. Hence, it's a center. Unlike Reagan's library, private donations. And in fact, the other presidential libraries mostly private donations. So, that says something already about Obama's legacy.
