@LisaForteUK I'd recommend the coca candy they have in local stores. A lot of sugar keeps energy up, coca helps with the altitude. A bit of unusual taste but nice. Coca leaf, not cocaine.

Tried these on a training day today in prep for Peru. The protein bar thing was gross. The gel? The gel was so gross I heaved. I advocate for the European style of food on mountains - cheese and salami 😂

@NoPunIncluded Hi! Are you admin of tabletop.social? I can't seem to follow people there for some reason. When I refresh it goes from Following to Pending but doesn't seem to trigger follow requests? Didn't know if you'd see a toot. I'm on infosec.exchange myself

1/ Just want to put this news in plain language for people. Senior people at Twitter have resigned in the last 48 hours. We now now why. They said in private Slack channels that @elonmusk is so desperate to recoup his money, he’s taking crazy risks with YOUR privacy and safety.

Baffling to find out there is a pro-Thirty Years War lobby, but apparently there is. Look, folks, the reason the First Amendment's freedom of religion is worded expansively is b/c the framers were operating at less remove from the Wars of Religion and they wanted NONE OF THAT.1/

@JackMurphyRGR Heard about mossad: "They're a mediocre intelligence agency with an excellent PR branch"

Most over rated SOF unit? 22SAS Most over rated intel agency? Mossad These guys have talent and history, but the way people talk about them greatly exaggerates their reach, scope, and capabilities. Discuss amongst yourselves.

@NoPunIncluded @MildaGames @jfoolsguard @jackson_pope Hi, sorry to barge into the thread but I've already got a mastodon account on another server and am trying to build up interesting people to follow and board game design is an interest, is there a way to list "recommended" people on your server/hub/thingy or such?

So, like, I know nothing about how Mastodon works, but from my understanding it operates on like hubs or something like that. Has a good decently sized boardgame hub or whatever they're called popped up yet?

@MildaGames As a fledgling designer myself Turncoats is inspiring, that stripped down "old feel" is kind of what I'm aiming for. Got any tips? It looks lovely and am very tempted to snag a copy. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next too.

@MildaGames I think at least for me the goal is some kind of balance between ancient feel, modern design. I have this idea I'm trying to nail down with prototypes(currently on major overhaul #6) and playtests. This has thrown a couple of interesting wrenches into that process ;)

@badsynthesis Turncoats has a secret historical setting. Pax Penning has an explicit historical setting, and sets out to explore that setting. It has some ancient design sensibilities (mostly roll and move mechanics), but it is very much a modern game design.

@MildaGames That recognizability is something I hadn't thought about before. Seems tricky, but maybe doable. Or it's a side track because my game doesn't fit. But maybe it could fit. This is thought provoking :) Historical in theme or in feel?

@badsynthesis I have plenty more to say on the subject but I don't feel like creating a whole 🧵about it, at least not right now. Ancient games are difficult to create, and it will probably take a while before I take another stab at it again. Pax Penning is more historical than ancient.

As a non-historian I have an idea: English history is a Danish civil war: First the angeles & saxons, from Denmark Then vikings, from Denmark Then normans, vikings from Denmark separated by a generation or so.

@MildaGames Thanks a lot! I'll have a think about 1,2 and 4. Especially 1, or hm really all 3. Point 3 isn't applicable in my case because you build out the board as you play but still seems like good advice. Back to the drawing board a bit, see what isn't _really_ needed :)

@badsynthesis In my opinion, there's like 4 parts of the game that should be very simple. 1) rules. You should be able to teach in minutes. 2) components. Simple generic components. Usually only one or two types. 3) board. You should be able to draw it. 4) turns. You do one thing on your turn.
