Do the Red wings fire Yzerman after this late season collapse? I don’t think they will, but should they?

@AshleyWenskTV Insane that guys like Betsy got 700K for mostly meaningless minutes. He averaged 6.7 ppg and under 3 rebounds at 6’8. There’s 500 guys in the portal as good or better. It’s a buyers market now.

"I don't think anyone is going to get as much as they got last year. Just based on their performance, you would probably have to take a pay cut..Betsey, I heard he got 6-700k." "You're not going to overpay guys, I think that's what may have happened last year." Eric Devendorf today on outgoing Syracuse players in the portal:

Autry wasn’t a great head coach so I won’t be surprised if he’s player of the year on whatever team he goes to. He always had a habit of disappearing in big games though, gotta get that figured out

NEWS: Syracuse sophomore Donnie Freeman is entering the transfer portal, a source told @LeagueRDY. The 6-foot-9 forward out of Washington, DC is a former five-star recruit who has spent the last two seasons at Syracuse. He averaged 16.5PPG, 7.2RPG and 1.3APG this season.

Someone is going to have to explain to me why people keep making the point that it’s worse for kids to leave college with, at this estimate, 1.5M in the bank? In many cases it will be more. Of course you need to be smart/disciplined with your money, but that’s at every age.
Garrett Hickey #INVICTA@Coach_Hickey5

Ding. Ding. Ding. It’s not the top kids that this system will fail. It’s the kids who make $500k and then $600k. They graduate, their careers sputter out and then go to get an office job and make $75k. What are they going to do then. The ncaa won’t care…

@badtw33ter @midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie Said you're making zero assumptions and then acted like you know who these players are consulting with. Now, its not just agents. You done added the parents as a reason they shouldn't get paid. Y'all are insane.

@badtw33ter @Sam_Vecenie So what? Whose fault is that? Lots of kids leave college for various reasons and don't go back. They don't need guardrails. They're adults and they've chosen to "get paid" as they've put it.

@UncleSmoke07 @midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie I am making zero assumptions. Nearly every high school athlete who is moderately or highly ranked has representation - whether it’s a parent, uncle, highschool coach, etc. It’s a whole new world and there’s tons of leaches eager to take cash from these kids

@badtw33ter @midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie Your stats are made up. Getting paid is not a worse situation than NOT getting paid. You all are also making a lot of assumptions. You don't need an agent to get an NIL deal.

@Alex_Bman04 @Sam_Vecenie We agree there actually. I don’t think it’s on the kids, it’s on the school to either make them employees or the ncaa to actually put up some legitimate guardrails, which they cannot because they will get demolished in court via anti trust laws.

@badtw33ter @Sam_Vecenie You are trying so hard to justify ‘student’ athletes being incredibly irresponsible. College is supposed to be about higher education. If all they care about is basketball, then go play in overseas. It’s up to them to figure out what to do after they graduate.

@midwestmusin @UncleSmoke07 This is a good point too. Less opportunity for the fringe guys who develop into really good players. There used to be a roster spot for them, not in the new world.

@UncleSmoke07 Because I want them to get a degree? You're weird, use your fucking brain. Gonna get real awkward for you as more 18-24 year old Euro pros and washed up NBA and G League guys come and continue taking spots for high school kids... But hey, the market will dictate it, right?

@UncleSmoke07 @midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie We aren’t trying to regulate it. We want more oversight so agents aren’t ripping kids off and giving them bad advice. For every kid getting a bag, there are 5 kids that got bad advice and ended up in a worse situation.

@midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie @badtw33ter They ARE being paid their market rate. The market is what folks are willing to pay. They're getting that money and for some reason you're here to try to regulate it acting like its in their best interest. Yeah life is hard. Its harder without a $500k headstart.

@badtw33ter @Sam_Vecenie We're on the same track here. I don't think you can simultaneously hold these two: a) players should make as much as humanly possible (insinuates the PJ Haggerty 5 in 5 plan) b) their education matters (5 schools in 5 years is probably not getting you a degree)

@midwestmusin @Sam_Vecenie 98% of college athletes don’t play professionally. I generally agree with you, but the degree matters, the data shows the impact it has on lifetime earning potential post graduation.

@Sam_Vecenie @badtw33ter This is illogical and not normally how these things work out. When you're no longer an athlete, much harder to be admitted to said school, nevermind transfer of credits, etc etc. Let's stop pretending ANY of it is about school or getting a degree. From either side.

@Sam_Vecenie The data also shows that many kids leaving college without a degree don’t go back, I’d imagine it’s much worse for athletes. Players finally getting paid is a good thing, but without guardrails, you’re gonna end up with entire programs shuttering sports altogether

@badtw33ter great, then they have 300k to spend on getting a degree. Let's say they need an extra 1.5 years to get a degree, that's still probably only 75k or so from an awesome university, and then they're still up 225k and they're getting their degree.

@NutsBuster @Coach_Hickey5 For every portal success story, there are tons of players who don’t find a new home or end up transferring down, that’s not even considering how challenging a degree is when you go to 3 schools in 4 years. We can come to a compromise that allows movement and prioritizes education

@Coach_Hickey5 Are you proposing it’d be a better situation if they made zero dollars in college and then end up at a $75k/year job….?
