In summary: Brita filters CANNOT clean all contaminants from water, so limit home water use - be wary of any home water filters. DO NOT put charred debris in green compost bins. DO NOT assume the ground is contaminant-free even if the haz-mat has been removed - be cautious.

I wonder how many students in my class downloaded the @BurgerKing app because of how often I talked about the "Free Any Size Fries with Any Purchase" coupon...😏

@keristephens I'm so curious to know what initiated it, too! There seem to be so many possible unintended consequences that I wonder if they end up outweighing whatever the intended outcome was. I also wonder how many schools will add similar language to their applications!

@baileycbenedict Wow! I wonder what initiated this??? I can’t imagine a lack of collaboration in this job search process. We are a team! I write a lot of letters and they each take hours.

It's grad school application season, and I noticed a new clause in UC-Irvine Letter of Recommendation (LOR) section. I'm curious what folks think about prohibiting students from participating in their LORs. I worry it puts students and faculty in precarious positions. 1/4

Good letters take me ~2 hrs to write, and I'm asked to write about 5 LOR a year (at a teaching school). I imagine untenured faculty members at research schools are asked for many more LOR. I worry this policy might hurt letters, students, and faculty... what do you think? 4/4

Some faculty request that students draft a LOR for them to review/edit. Would students feel comfortable saying, "Hey advisor or instructor I had for one class, I can't draft it - you need to" or would they just check the box and deal with the moral/ethical tensions of lying 3/4

I received feedback in a mid-semester check-in stating, "I don't know if you seem to push the gay agenda." Are pronouns the gay agenda? Plenty of straight people want their pronouns known, too. Whether folx like it or not, understanding gender pronouns is important in business!

My goal is for students to build knowledge & skills that help them succeed in business. Since many folx introduce themselves using pronouns, we need to know what pronouns are & understand the possible consequences for (un)intentionally using the wrong pronouns for people at work.

I teach Management Communication in a College of Business and am talking more in class about gender pronouns, honorifics (Dr, Ms, Mr, Mx), and the difference between sex and gender. I got a little pushback, but most students seem to feel positive or neutral about these topic.

Thoughts from a YT based musician: It’s not just major labels you’re talking about here… we’re talking artists, publishers, writers, producers, mixers, an entire industry that you want to pay with exposure. If Netflix wants to use popular music they pay a licensing fee… (1/3)
MrBeast@MrBeast

A major music label should stop copyright striking YouTubers every opportunity it gets and instead let us use their music and then we YouTubers all rally and get them 10s of billions of impressions on their music for not being cunts to us. Thoughts? 😂

Providing spaces for students to discuss a range of topics with others can be beneficial. Instructors may consider building in partnered and all-class discussions that address many topics to allow students to engage in dialogues that would be personally beneficial to them. (9/9)

Discussing certain topics also predicted resilience! Having others to talk to about career & life goals and success & triumphs predicted more resilience on 3 dimensions… friends & relationships and failures & mistakes were the next most predictive topics. (8/9)
