"🪂 Pilot survival gear evolution — from WW1 open-cockpit bailouts to the F-15 ejection seats that just helped save our Airmen in Iran!
• WW1: M1903 Springfield + Colt M1911 .45 & M1917 revolvers carried on-person in flight gear
• WW2: M4 Survival Rifle (.22 Hornet) with its classic collapsible wire stock
• Vietnam: Jet Pilot Knife (canopy smasher) + S&W Model 15 .38 revolver worn on the flight suit
• Modern: GAU-5A 5.56 takedown rifle packed in ejection seats + Beretta M9 / Sig Sauer M18 pistols
Pistols stayed on the pilot for immediate defense after ejecting. Rifles waited in the seat kit until needed.
Huge congratulations to the USAF Pararescue Jumpers (PJs) and CSAR crews who just pulled off one of the most daring, complex rescue missions in recent U.S. history — safely extracting both downed F-15E crew members from deep behind enemy lines over the weekend.
Many of those elite “That Others May Live” warriors are based right here at the 106th Rescue Wing in Westhampton, NY. It’s an absolute honor having you as customers and friends at Baits & Barrels. You are true heroes — thank you for bringing our pilots home safe! 🇺🇸🪂
Which era’s gear would YOU want in a real bailout right now?
WW1 .45 | Vietnam .38 | Modern GAU-5A | Something else?
