What advice would I give to myself when starting out in crypto? 1. Study Bitcoin, its structure and the principle of Proof of Work mining. Read two books: Bitcoin Standard and Mastering Bitcoin. Until you understand what’s innovative about Bitcoin and how it’s different from everything else, don’t even think about building a portfolio in crypto. 2. Play the long game. Invest over a long distance and don’t worry about market fluctuations in the moment. In 5 years, it won’t matter at all whether you bought Bitcoin at $28,000 or $31,000. 3. Know what you are buying and why. Risks come from not understanding what you hold in your portfolio. If you bought an asset simply because everyone was talking about it, you made a mistake. With this approach, you can forget about long-term investments. You will lose everything at the first drawdown. Confidence in your assets and positions comes from understanding what you hold and why. 4. Ignore the news News is written by journalists whose task is to attract your attention. They are not interested in anything else. Giving you useful and reliable information is not on their list of interests. Crypto journalists have less experience in crypto than a 15-year-old high school student. Even the largest publications are constantly involved in promoting fake information, without knowing it. News will not help you earn more and know more. It's a waste of time. Focus your attention on gaining experience and skills. 5. Don't pay attention to what the crowd thinks. If during all my time in the crypto sphere I had listened to the opinion of the crowd, then now my portfolio would be 99% shitcoins. Determine your strategy for a long distance and draw up a clear plan of action. What do you buy, when, for what amount, what tools do you use. Don't let the news noise and the opinions of the masses influence your strategy and confidence in your assets. Losers will constantly bury Bitcoin, crypto, and talk bullshit towards DeFi. This makes it easier to justify their inaction and poverty. This should not throw you off your strategy. Of course, you shouldn't completely ignore what's happening in the market. Here I’m talking specifically about the influence of the crowd on your confidence in your positions and assets. 6. Constantly gain new skills and experience. Sharpen old skills and develop new ones. Know how to adapt. Things change very quickly in cryptocurrency. Old strategies lose their relevance and new ones appear. Those who know how to adapt to changes earn more. Someone who understands the need to upgrade skills and gain experience earns more. Someone who is not afraid to make mistakes earns more. Don’t be like a gray mass who received an education once and thinks that at this stage the learning process is over. Learning never ends. 7. Find a community of like-minded people who have common goals and interests with you. This will significantly improve your skills in working with cryptocurrency. It will introduce you to an alternative, but useful for your strategy, opinion. This is a 100% way to start earning more than you earn now. Community and people are everything. At the beginning of the journey I thought that all this was bullshit and it was better to move alone. This is also an option, but it is extremely slow and costly. 8. Learn about securty of your assets This only needs to be done once. Understand the structure of crypto wallets and private keys. How does a mnemonic phrase work, hardware wallets, BIP39 passphrase. Spend time studying security and you will never need to worry about the safety of your funds.
