@tobito420 My only problem is that for some of the series listed there, the magic system seems to exists as a vehicle for for combat, rather than a thing that exists in the world and has been made into a thing for war.

@banditcheeks Yeah since they're primarily action series, a lot of magic use focuses on combat, but since something like Witch Hat isn't a combat focused series, I thought it would be more fair to compare their magic systems and world building excluding combat uses

Too hard to rank tbh. I really really like the way Black Clover and Magi make magic feel natural and accessible, but Frieren and Witch Hat Atelier make it feel more like *magic* if that makes sense. I won't speak on the ones I haven't seen enough of yet

@anxietyAD Mob Psycho 100 hits differently, or maybe it's that the tighter story telling makes it feel like it's using my heart as a speed bag. Dandadan evokes similar feelings at times so it feels like a much slower burn. I think they're similar but still hard to compare to each other.

@scara_110 In like an arc or something we're gonna have them get stranded somewhere without being able to use most or all of their magic and stuff, and we'll all have forgotten Ichi was a giga hunter and be surprised when he brings a bear back to camp or something.

@its_hipolita There's a certain degree of faith that is given to an author who's proven they know how to handle sensitive topics, I can only assume people that don't have that faith are just unfamiliar with Arakawa; and that's fine, I just wish they'd exercise some patience.

Sure, and manga readers seem to agree it all gets neatly explained, but I think that whatever else you think about her, you can trust Arakawa of all people to not have a massacre of civilians get glossed over and sidelined in favor of buddy comedy and skits.

I think it is time for Yomi to adress the elephant in the room that was the massacre. Even when the show attempts to make Kagemori sympathethic, witnessing such atrocities by Gabi makes it extremely tough to swallow. So much that every attempt at light hearted comedy falls flat.

@hakur1k John's such an interesting character. I like that he's a little older, and his suffering and indecision feel REAL, they also imply that he's supposed to be giga strong powerful off rip but it's taking him a while to actually build up any reliable strength.
