Why is Ontario’s alcohol distribution network being monopolized by a foreign company? How does this serve the interests of Ontarians and local importers? @isaaccallan @ColinDMello

LCBO private warehouse forces many local companies out of business. Red tape makes imported wine cost prohibitive & difficult for importers to compete & grow. DHL double dips in imported Ontario alcohol sales as the LCBO's mandatory carrier to pick up/warehouse goods @ColinDMello
Isaac Callan@isaaccallan

NEW: An Ontario delivery company claims a private warehousing deal between the LCBO and a subsidiary of DHL is forcing it out of business, alleging a "conspiracy." LCBO and DHL deny the claim. #Onpoli globalnews.ca/news/10812717/…

@TomPark1n Lcbo and province generate taxes on all liquor sales at every point of sale (restaurants, grocery, convenience and private), not just whats sold in retail. Lion share of profits are in wholesale, look at the pricing examples on their site hellolcbo.com/app/answers/de…

By two to one margin, Ontarians side with LCBO employees over Ford, Leger poll says LCBO generates $2.5B to pay for healthcare and keep taxes low Seems Ford has promised that profit to his pals at 7-11 and Loblaws toronto.citynews.ca/2024/07/17/hal…

@l_stone Great, when do you think bars and restaurants can get stock availability of spirits so we don’t run dry before the weekend?

NEW: Ontario is speeding up the sale of ready-to-drink beverages and large beer pack sizes in 450 licensed grocery stores - the ones that already sell wine, beer and cider can start ordering ready-to-drink coolers this Thursday & sell them immediately, instead of Aug. 1.

What do you think? Should @fordnation listen to @JayJGoldberg from the CTF and immediately allow all types of alcohol to be sold in grocery stores while the strike is on?

@davidclement Yes, increasing the number of re-sellers/points of sale = more taxes generated and more jobs created. Allow local producers and importers (selling non-lcbo listed products) to sell direct to all re-sellers (grocery and convenience) as they do with bars and restaurants.

And that $2.5B would increase to over $3B if all alcohol was sold outside of the LCBO

⚠️ Many are pointing out that 80% of the LCBO's revenue comes from "Retail". Don't be fooled to think that this revenue disappears if there are private sellers. That retail revenue is primarily the wholesale markup. Look at 🥃 Supplied for: $7.13 (including freight) Federal excise: $3.99 LCBO wholesale markup: $15.54 Other LCBO levies: $0.38 HST, deposit: $3.71 Shelf price: $30.75
