Ich habe versucht, die Rede von Donald Trump beim Treffen seines selbsternannten "Friedensrats" bis Ende auszuhalten. Es ging nicht. Punkt. Warum um alles in der Welt wird das nicht endlich knallhart und ohne Wenn und Aber ausgesprochen? Dieser Mann ist geistig schwer dement und das ist keine Polemik, keine Übertreibung, keine politische Attacke. Es ist eine offenkundige, schockierende Tatsache, die man nach diesem Auftritt nicht mehr wegerklären kann. Was da ablief, war kein politischer Diskurs, kein "Trump-typisches Chaos", kein "er ist halt so"... es war das wirre, zusammenhanglose Gestammel eines Menschen, dessen kognitive Fähigkeiten dramatisch zerfallen sind. Der einzige halbwegs konstante Gedanke: Er will den Friedensnobelpreis. Immer wieder kehrte er panisch-dement darauf zurück... Norwegen habe ihn nicht angerufen, die hätten ihn verschaukelt, aber sein Kumpel "Johnny" Infantino (der FIFA-Chef) habe ihm dafür einen viel besseren, selbst erfundenen "Friedenspreis" gegeben, golden und toll und überhaupt viel wertvoller. Mitten in einem angeblichen Gremium für Gaza-Wiederaufbau und Weltfrieden dozierte der US-Präsident über seine persönliche Trophäen-Sammlung wie ein verwirrter Rentner im Pflegeheim. Zwischendurch: Hunderte Geiseln, die er angeblich gerettet hat (Fantasiezahlen), Tote in Gaza, und dann...aus heiterem Himmel, die uralte, tausendmal erzählte Anekdote von der kaputten Rolltreppe und wie er heldenhaft Teile der First Lady vor Kameras versteckt hat. Vor laufenden internationalen Kameras, vor Regierungschefs, vor der Weltöffentlichkeit. Peinlich, infantil, verstörend. Und das Erschreckendste: Die Medien, die Politik, die Kommentatoren behandeln das immer noch als normalen Beitrag eines amtierenden Präsidenten. Als Stilfrage. Als "Trump eben". Das ist kein Stil mehr. Das ist ein medizinischer Notfall an der Spitze der mächtigsten Nation und Armee der Welt... und jetzt auch noch Leiter eines Parallel-"Friedensrats" mit Autokraten der Welt. Das zu verharmlosen ist dumm – schlicht und ergreifend dumm. Mir macht das keine Angst mehr, es macht mich wütend. Und fassungslos.

Germany - like many other countries - of course has mail in voting. It was even possible for me to vote from Warsaw. I had the voting documents delivered to my Warsaw adres and was able to send them back in time.
