Over the past few weeks, we’ve had 300 CVs for multiple engineering roles from graduates to senior and no applicant was female. I knew the lack of women in engineering was an issue but wow!

@lobo122002 @3dprintindustry @Photocentric_ Injection moulding takes far too long to setup. Photocentric responded to an urgent need by the NHS and their technology redefines the point where injection moulding becomes worthwhile. If IM is a better option for cost and scale, the NHS would’ve chosen an injection moulder.

@3dprintindustry @barlow_edward @Photocentric_ Millions of parts? Has nobody pointed out that 3D Printing is not the way to produce in high numbers? Injection moulding can produce high quality parts far more quickly and (probably) cleanly.

Unfortunately SMEs don’t have endless money to donate everything all the time, so have to work at cost instead. I tried to work with injection moulders, but none could match our output in time

The virus doesn’t stop for a bank holiday so neither do we! The whole team working overtime to 3D print these 13500 face shields so far this weekend.

@Simonleighuk Projects like this are actually a really nice way of learning. I was thinking the other day that it would make a great CAD or design for manufacture task: get given a particular manufacturing method, design a face shield or similar device in 1 hr, print it, iterate and repeat.

Not that I want to embarrass them (sorry!), but as an educator its great to see students you have worked with and are still working with getting out there and using their skills tackling challenges head on! #design #manufacturing #3Dprinting #education #academia #highereducation
