Indians don't realize how crazy their caste system is. This one thinks the Hukou is comparable. 1. Hukou can be changed if a rural citizen (Nongmin) enters a large state-owned company in a city, which can provide the city hukou (Shimin) 2. There's zero social stigma to a rural person after obtaining the city hukou 3. There's zero emotional, social or other stigma against people with a rural hukou. Only the economic fact that a city-hukou owner would prefer to get married with a city-hukou owner, for the social benefit it brings 4. Nobody asks the hukou type of another Chinese, unless for administrative reasons. 5. caste is related to karma, dirtiness, spirituality, and sticks to you for your entire life.

@barrylllau @HaraldinChina Again, my point was for the wider system, not a single sector. Farmers in Punjab earn a lot more than those in other states. Subsidies and incentives close that gap a lot. Class discrimination is backed by your govt while it's banned by ours.

@barrylllau @HaraldinChina You should see the cars farmers here apparently drive. Even I was shocked when I first saw them. And my point was to address the entire system, there are sections that people call lower caste, that receive unprecedented advantage in matters of welfare and employment.

@HaraldinChina Lol, you should see the advantages so called lower castes get here in India. Farmers here get land allotments for free, get subsidized equipment, crops, zero taxes, a fixed income aside from agricultural output, and even that is bought by the government at a fixed rate.

The only difference is 200 years of colonial propaganda writing against the Indian system. BTW "Caste" is literally a European (Spanish/Portuguese) word, where caste system is originally from.
