#OnThisDay in 1937 the Euzkadi football team visited Basque refugee children who were being looked after near Moscow. There were over 500 children, some of them the children of friends of the players. During the visit, captain Luis Regueiro refereed a match between the ‘niños’.

Greatly honoured today to lay flowers at the memorial plaque for the Basque children fleeing Nazi/Fascist persecution in 1937. Today marks the date when Southampton citizens opened their hearts to admit 4,000 refugee Basque children - defying the local and national politicians.
