This is the kind of nuance that I absolutely love. Bruce is a very caring person but don’t think he should be this omnipotent being that understands every individual he comes across. I think that social divide makes for great stories and commentary.

I think people sometimes forget Bruce does have a privileged position due to his sense of duty and humanity, but him not being able to empathize with sex workers of Gotham entirely actually makes for a better story because it means Batman is not omniscient

Last issue of my journey with Brubaker in Catwoman of East End. I can't lie, it is going to be very sad to move on from his writing. I think he has a very amazing voice for Selina and clearly understood her history and ideology. I won't be reading Pfiefer's run, though.

@noostergold Yes, exactly. Selina does love Bruce a lot in the comic and it is pretty apparent Bruce is not the villain either, so I am not sure why this is a subject that we should be push a certain view about

@noostergold There is a comic panel going around from Catwoman of the East End where Selina briefly talks about Bruce not wholly understanding the struggles of working girls, people started to say previous iterations of Bruce wasn’t like that so it started another discussion

@tiimcassie Unfortunately it became sort of a destiny that haunts his writing even today, everyone thinks they can use the raw material to create some sort of Shakespearean tragedy slash class critique but it often falls flat with how superficially they treat him

@batopticon oh absolutely ! par for the course from the get go jason being great material mishandled and developed to the side than forward facing. so many fumbles and missed opportunities from the beginning its actually kinda sad.

"the flying todds" origin was intentionally bad it was literally a thing to make dg uncomfortable they were mimicking his family's act. im a messed up way. why did everyone hate this im obsessed.

Also let’s be real if Selina meant Bruce actually mistreated prostitutes she wouldn’t associate herself with him to start with. Let’s stop misinterpreting the panels together and understand characters are narrative tools

If a character cannot progress and learn or regress depending on the storyline, it will most likely make the story boring. Bruce is not an anchor who is capable of everything, he is human and stories are better when writers remember that
