This happens because opposing teams will travel great distances to experience one of the most iconic stadiums in the sport.
Getting to see your team play at Notre Dame stadium is a novel and magical experience.
Opposing fans showing up like this is actually a compliment to the legacy and tradition that Notre Dame has.
