Customs officers from Kenya and their counterparts from Mozambique, Angola, and Seychelles are currently attending an advanced training on Rules of Origin at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA, Mombasa Campus). The training is hosted by the World Customs Organisation in conjunction with the European Union and Kenya Revenue Authority. Over the course of this workshop, participants will engage in deep discussions, exchanging insights on areas of origin criteria, certification and consignment criteria, and will have the opportunity to witness the practical application of Rules of Origin during the experiential learning study tour of the Port of Mombasa. This is a crucial step in ensuring that our region continues to thrive in the global trade environment. During the opening ceremony, Chief Manager - Port Operations, Mr Swaleh Faraj, who represented the Regional Coordinator Southern Region, Mr Lawrence Siele, stated that training of the officers will empower them to fulfill their mandate on revenue collection, border control, and trade facilitation which will enhance the social and economic development of the society. He also noted that the training in Rules of Origin will empower Customs officers in the region to facilitate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement aimed at boosting Intra-African Trade and the continent’s competitiveness in global trade. The workshop commenced on 26th August and will run until Friday, August 30, 2024.
