Happening Now! The BCRC-Caribbean kicks off a Regional Capacity Building Workshop: Strengthening Implementation of the Rotterdam Convention and Trade Control Measures under the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Conventions in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

From 28th–29th April, 2026, regional experts gathered at Cara Lodge, Guyana, for a dynamic Hybrid Regional Training Workshop on the Effect Cause Action Global Tool for Highly Hazardous Pesticide Management.

From April 23rd - 24th, 2026, the Centre, in collaboration with the Ministry of Oil, Gas and Environment, hosted an in-person training workshop in Suriname on the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Minamata Conventions.

Participants from twelve (12) participating countries under GEF ISLANDS 10279 and 10472 are working through the course on the GHS. Congratulations to this week's winner, Gail Sabiran. Do look out for future updates on this Sprint and how you may be able to engage with the DLH!

From February 26 to March 11, 2026, the Tauw bv team, under the GEF ISLANDS+ Output 2.2 Hazardous Waste Management Consultancy, carried out national assessment missions in Belize and the Dominican Republic.

On March 4-5, 2026, the Centre hosted the Regional Validation Workshop for the “Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Management (WEEE)” under Output 3.1 of the GEF ISLANDS 10279 & 10472 Projects.

The BCRC- Caribbean held a Joint Virtual Inception Meeting on March 25, 2026, to launch two consultancies under the GEF11176 project, which is funded by the GEF and implemented by UNEP, and focused on eliminating hazardous chemicals from the Carnival Fashion supply chains in TTO.
