We want to be transparent that we’re making changes to Gemini CLI that may impact your workflow, including more robust detection of policy-violating use cases, prioritizing traffic for certain types of accounts, and restricting Gemini Pro models for free tier users.
We understand that these changes represent a significant shift, and apologize for any disruption this might cause you. For direct control over your own quotas and billing, use your own paid API key from AI Studio or Vertex AI.
We’re here to support you, and will do our best to address your questions and concerns. As always, thanks for building with us. 🙏

Gemini CLI users - please see this important announcement here: github.com/google-gemini/…
Quick summary:
( 1 ) Users using the product for free ("Code Assist for Individuals") will lose access to Pro models on March 25.
( 2 ) We will be increasingly prioritizing traffic based on subscription type and account standing.

@notsunsakis @bcherny don't call it vibe coding - that's associated with yolo i smash head on keyboard, not thinking, engineering, building, testing, debugging, iterating.
agentic engineering, or just...coding. We move faster, but it's still hard.

Certain subscriptions like Google AI Pro come with these credits by default.
In Gemini CLI if you hit your daily usage limit for number of requests we will then allow you to opt-in to use your AI credits to continue working.
They are kind of like overflow usage or top-up that your plan gives you. So if one day you hit your limit and want to continue your work, you can!

A few things:
1) Code Assist for Individuals is not a subscription (ie paid plan).
2) Users on free accounts do not have 3.1 Pro access yet. We are trying to conserve limited capacity and therefore only users on a paid subscription plan currently have access to 3.1 Pro in Gemini CLI at this time
3) 3.0 Pro is only going away soon for Gemini API key users.

Why did it have access? If a junior engineer takes down prod, it's never the junior's fault. That's an access and SDLC issue
Alexey Grigorev@Al_Grigor
Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command. It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards. Automated snapshots were gone too. In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again. If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read. alexeyondata.substack.com/p/how-i-droppe…

@JackWoth98 @MountainsGuy1 @ntaylormullen It’s basically a false positive. It’s a new inclusion in that dependency and apparently some virus checkers don’t recognize it and flag it
English

@MountainsGuy1 @bdmorgan @ntaylormullen We have someone taking a look I believe. Thanks for flagging!

Reinstating access to users affected by Antigravity Bans
We've coordinated with Antigravity to resolve recent account disruptions and reinstate access for Gemini CLI users who may have been affected.
We are also improving things with more clear error messages and documentation around third party tool usage.

@kcosr If you retry that operation, does it fail again? We don’t see many errors of that type.

@andrew_r @LyalinDotCom It's not a client issue - it's a server-side capacity issue
English

@LyalinDotCom Can yall seriously just consider forking/partnering-with opencode?
Gemini 2.5/3/3.1 all have run really well in opencode...
English

Just a reminder... please be kind to the engineers here who build these magical tools and still try to engage with the community. It's stressful work as it is, trust me.
We're really doing our best
P.S. For the record... you can beat me up all you want 🙃

The compute bottleneck is massively under appreciated. I would guess the gap between supply and demand is growing single digit % every day.
