This is what I've learned and am trying to apply too.
99% of the people doesn't know or practice it.
Rather they will snap back that you are blaming them when you are complaining.
I believe this can be a very good self improving resolution for our new year if we adopt this.

Apologizing when someone you care about tells you what you did hurt them. —No defense - “but that’s not what I meant” —No gaslighting - “you’re too sensitive, it’s really not that deep” —No feeling attacked - “You complain a lot, it’s like I can’t do anything right” —No “I’m sorry if…” Just a heartfelt genuine apology, it really doesn’t take anything from you
